OK DISers, I know you can help me out on this one....:D

One of my coworkers is getting married in a couple of weeks. This is a second marriage for both her and her fiance. They are both in their 50's and have lived together for over 15 years - they also both own the home they live in.

She and I are very close, and I consider her a good friend, but I really don't know a lot about her likes/dislikes as far as food, home decor, or anything like that. I would really like to get her something special - but what? A GC to a restaurant or something like that seems really cheesy to me, but I am at a total loss. Any ideas??

I just bought one of my friends who is getting married and recevied EVERYTHING on her gift registry twice a very nice picnic basket with some nice plates, flate ware, and wine glasses. I also added a nice bottle of wine and some nice appetizer foods. The picnic basket and non food items I got at Pier 1 on sale.

Good luck,
Tina

in fact I just finished shrink wrapping a wedding gift for a wedding tomorrow...something like the one lovemygoofy did..I bought a picnic basket (most are clearanced this time of year)..it came with the dishes, cups, and silverware..I added jars of my homemade applesauce, jams, jellies, pickles, a jar of sand art brownie mix, a can of wedding soup (for good luck),,decorated everything with a sunflower motif..added some sunflower hand towels, dish clothes, and oven mitts...they don't drink so I skipped the wine..but you could add that or champagne, then I closed up the basket..put it in one of those large shrink wrap bags, added some yellow and green raffia and artificial sunflowers and attached the card..t's the third marriage for one of my husband's employees..and they have most everything..this will be one gift I can be sure will NOT be duplicated by anyone else..and will most likely be well appreciated!

Wow lynxstch,
I wish I knew you before I sent the basket, I would have asked for some more tips. I'm not that decorative and didn't think of all the other good things you did. I"ll remember for furture uses, though. Thanks for the ideas for my future presents.

Tina

I gave a very nice wedding picture frame to a woman at church for a wedding gift. It was the second one for both of them.

One of our favorite wedding gifts was an Atlas. We had to replace it a few years ago, as ours was pre-Soviet break-up. Any type of quality reference book, such as dictionary, thesaurus, biographical dictionary (one of my favorites) would make a nice gift.

When I read the thread title before opening, my first thought was a picnic basket. We got one 15 years ago and still use it.

Hmmm...a picnic basket - I never would have thought of that! Maybe I could have other people chip in at work and really fill it nicely! :sunny:

Keep those ideas coming!

My Aunt and Uncle dated for 25 years before they got married ... I gave them a blanket with their names and wedding dated embroidered on it.

I saw picninc baskets on sale somewhere recently..I think Pier One. I got one for a wedding gift and loved it.
