Need Treasure ideas

Looking for some creative ideas of what to put in a treasure box for students to pick through. 3rd graders if it matters.

If you go to 5-Below, I bet you'd find a ton of ideas as you roam the store.

I had the idea of doing a small treasure box for my dd's, as a reward for piano practice, and just shopped there yesterday.. came home with enough to last them a few months of picking one item once a week.

Our teachers ask for donations which I do all the time. The dollar store or party stores have packages with multiple items that can be opened and divided.
Rings
Magic towels
Party favor toys
Plastic dinosaurs or army guys
Mini notebooks
$1 books from scholastic
A free homework pass/ line leader pass
Erasers or pencils
Scented markers
Sticker sheets

As a substitute teacher, I found that kids love small stuff from the party favor aisle at the dollar store. Tops, bouncy balls and erasers were a HUGE hit. I limited the choices to just a few items to avoid decisions taking forever.

If you are into cheap plastic things made from China, Oriental Trading (online and catalog) has tons of "junk".

My sister is elementary speech teacher.

We give her toys from happy meals, all the little junk we recive in party goodie bags, any small toys or old jewlery that we want to give to goodwill, old books,etc.

She washes them all. The kids think it is great.

Target Dollar Spot has Halloween stuff (and I think it's still 30% off with Cartwheel). They had bags of small erasers -- I think it was either 30 or 50 in the bag. But they were small, so may or may not be useful for your purposes.

I also sent prizes to school last year for the Accelerated Reader prize box. Apparently the big hit was the lick a stick candy (the one with the pixy stick sugar in a packet and a white stick). They were actually Valentines that I got on 90% clearance and no one noticed or cared that they had hearts. They were sugar, after all, and were perceived to be cooler than Dum-Dums.
