Let me start by saying we usually don't have a car while at WDW. We stay on-site and use ME and the WDW Transportation system. However, an upcoming 5 night trip will find us off-site for the first 3 nights. We are trying to figure out what to do about transportation. There are 2 of us. We know the easiest would be to rent a car at the airport and return it when we fly home. However, we will not need the car on our arrival as we're arriving late and will have transportation to our off-site resort. Would it make sense to rent a car from the Swan/Dolphin location for a couple of days and use it while staying off-site? Then return it when we move on-site and use ME for the return trip to the airport. Renting cars is totally foreign to us and we're not sure which would be the most economical and feasible solution.

I'm not exactly sure I have this right...you are flying into MCO, but staying off-site for a few nights, then heading to WDW and taking ME back to MCO? If so, rent a car at the airport, drive to your off-site resort. Then, when it's time to head to WDW, drive to the resort, unpack, and then return the car to the Dolphin. Now, it will have to be Alamo or National if you use the Dolphin. But, there are plenty of car rental companies in the DTD area. A lot of the hotels there have different rental companies. And they will shuttle you back to your resort. Or you can just walk back over to DTD and hop on your resort bus there.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, we are staying off-site for the first few nights and will need a rental car. However, once we move on-site we no longer will have a need for the car and were wondering if it would cost more to rent from one location and return to another or if we should just keep the car our entire stay. Renting cars is pretty foreign to us as we usually don't have a car or if we do, it's our own.

If you aren't sure what the costs would be, the best idea is to head to the different rental sites, and just plug in the info. Find a rental company relatively close to where you'll be when you need it. Then go from there. Choose a car rental company that is going to make it somewhat easy to rent close to your off-site resort, and then return it close to WDW.

Tiffany...it is actually many times cheaper to rent a car off site(not at Swan/Dolphin or TTC) but at the Grosonver(sp) and other close sites. There might even be a satelite car rental at your off site hotel. Also there are some rental companies that will pick you up(besides Enterprise) and then you can usually return the car to TTC or D/S or the origional location and take a cab to the hotel or DTD. Of course you can take ME back to the airport, so if you really feel you need a rental car to get around the first few days...go ahead and rent one. If you have not rented a car recently be sure to read ALL of the information on www.mousesavers.com Look for transportation/cars/planes etc. Good luck.
