This is off topic, but I need to vent.

My DH's father and grandmother are suppossed to be buying my children a Little Tykes playhouse for christmas - this is all my DS 3 can talk about - Santa's bringing me a playhouse - can't you just picture this?

Well, my FIL, being the person he is, waits until today to start locaiting one (even though I warned him that they might be hard to find, start looking early, etc). And guess what? Not a play house to be found. Mary and Joseph probably could have found a room at the inn easier than trying to find one of these at this late hour! I am so ticked. Now I have to tell my little one that Santa could not make the playhouse and hopefully he can make one soon! Toys R US (which are the only ones is town that carry this thing) cannot tell me when to expect another shipment.

I know I should be grateful that they are buying this for the kids, but I really do not look forward to the tears when the kids figure out that they don't have a playhouse christmas morning.

Thanks for letting me vent. I feel somewhat better.

Oh man Amy that stinks! Why is it that people do not listen when you speak??? Why wouldn't they just buy it early???

Important lessons learned
1. Do not let others buy critical gifts
2. If others feel the need to buy critical gifts, pick them out yourself and let them reimburse you
3. Go shopping together and get it early (and make lunch part of the deal)
4. Mention no critical gifts in their presence!!

OK, no help here. But lots of sympathy heading your way. Merry Christmas and hope the kids get so distracted with other things they don't notice!

Well, they are fairly spoiled, so I guess they will get over it (I was just venting cause I have a lot of issues with my in-laws and it just feels good to unload every once in a while) We only let them buy the critical gift because we could not swing the playhouse ourself - lesson learned.

Thanks to all for listening (reading or whatever :) )

I hope everyone here has (or has had) happy holidays.

Aww Amy...Sorry they waited so long to get it...I hope your kids are not too disappointed on Christmas...

Hugs!

I now go looking for those critcial gifts and tell them I saw one. and do you want me to pick it up for you. Works every time!!!

This year I had both my parents and my inlaws shop from me!

I bought the stuff I knew they would like and when the question of "what can we get" came up I just said "I got it just give the $$" and it worked out great.

I know that the playhouse is a big nut, we split up the cost for it about 4 years ago for my daughters birthday. Kinda hard to be able to fork out the money for that and wait for reimbursement.

I hope your little one is not too disappointed Amy, and have a nice holiday!

We have also gone with the "shop from us" strategy. Unfortunately it took one of the kids not getting that special gift for us to learn about it.

This year we tried something a little different. We told them that we wanted to order the stuff on-line so we could earn the points. It worked like a charm.

Those are great ideas. The only reason we didn't buy it and get them to pay us back way this sucker is hugh and we don't have a vehicle it will fit in (FIL has a truck). I would have love to have purchased it over the net but shipping is close to $100 so that was out.

We sat DS3 down last night and told him Santa had trouble making the playhouse and that he would work on it when he got back to the North Pole and get it to him very soon. Who knows if he bought it, but maybe we won't have a meltdown tomorrow morning.

Lesson learned.

Been there done that!!! One thing I taught my daughter was that Santa's elves only make the wooden toys, the fisher price type things, he buys them. That way if something special didn't make it under the tree, she would know that santa just simply couldn't get it. LOL, sounds lame, but she bought it:p

The very last year that she believed in santa, she said to me; "If there is a santa, his elves will make me a wooden Noah's Arc." She told me this TWO days before Christmas! By golly, between santa, his elves, and the local christian book store, she got her wooden toy!
