We are going to Florida to visit family. It seemed silly to be down there and not bring our kids to Disney ... but I broke my foot a while back. It hasn't healed well. I finally don't need a cast or boot anymore but I also can't stand or walk for extended periods at all.
I will have to get an ECV rental. I haven't been to Disney in many years. I was a healthy young twenty something back then ..lol. I didn't pay attention to this sort of thing.
What do you do for stores and rides and just getting around crowds and such? Are there areas to park it?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Apple Scooters is an excellent provider of Scooters at WDW and DL. I used them at DL last year and they were excellent to my Mother and plan to use them at WDW in 2016. You would use the stroller parking areas for the scooter. Make sure to take your personal items and the key, so it doesn't get taken. They are much cheaper than inside Disney. If you are staying off site and not driving, you will need to rent an ECV at the parks because most hotel shuttles don't allow for you to take ECV's. It is no issue to rent from an off site provider if your staying on site.

1 post this on the disability board they will be able to help you a lot

2 you can take your ECV any where in lines ( some do not allow them in lines in that case you will be given a wheel chair)
as fair as just getting around be prepared for people walking in front of you

The majority of queues are accessible in both standby and FP+. There are a couple attractions where an ECV doesn't fit and transfer to a regular wheelchair is necessary.

The TTA/people mover is not accessible at all. You'd have to park it. There's a parking area in stroller parking for ECV there.

Be prepared for longer waits at certain attractions. VotLM has an extra queue that may take a bit longer. Big Thunder and Splash Mt. have alternate queues. A cm will direct you. We usually waited longer for those two attractions as well. The Jungle Cruise has a separate rope boat queue where you can enter without the boat rocking. Just let a cm before the entrance know you need a rope boat. Sometimes that can be a longer wait as there are only 1 or 2, usually 2 rope boats running. At Peter Pan, they limit how many wheelchair/ECV are allowed near loading. So that can add extra time on the wait.

The wait at the safari at AK was significantly longer, i found it better to park halfway in with the strollers and walk, but we had fast passes in the am so there wasn't too much waiting or walking. They want you to ride all the way through but if you smile and say you'd really prefer to leave it with the strollers they have no issue.

Second vote for Apple Scooters. I've used them twice. Very friendly and the scooter is very easy to drive with little learning curve.

When my mom first started needing mobility assistance, she would park the ECV outside the attraction, restaurant or shop, and walk in and back out. She could handle that much walking, but not all the walking around the parks. She would park wherever they were parking other ECVs or strollers. Just remember to take the key with you and if it's a sunny day, drop the back rest down over the seat or it will be very hot to sit on when you return.

safari cms would not let me park with the strollers last year. Had to wait in the long line for ecv's
