Need to upgrade cell phone - any cheap deals?

I want to upgrade DS's cell phone for his upcoming birthday. I am not eligible to upgrade through my carrier until 8/10. Where can I get a good deal now on just a new phone? He would like a texting phone w/ the Qwerty keyboard..beyond that it doesn't need any extra bells and whistles. Anyone? Thanks

My DD has a LG Neon that she loves. I wondered if would be too "girly", but one of her boy friends got one for Christmas and he loves it too. I has a flip out keyboard and can hold a memory card full of music and videos. It was very cheap when we renewed, but I don't know what it would be without contract.

ATT has the LG Neon as pay go phone for 99 bucks. If has a ATT he can just switch out sim cards.

LOL, DD15 has one too & loves it! Hers is also pay as you go & it was cheaper to buy from the AT&T store than online, $99 new. When I shopped before the holidays, it was more than that online unless you got the rebate for a certain package.

It should work. I buy a lot phones that way. I have not bought a phone from ATT phone store since I lost my phone a few years back.

Yes it will work. I had a phone mess up once, and I wasn't due for an upgrade so I bought a cheap pay as you go phone popped in my sim card and I was good to go. Oh and I'm on AT&T

If you have AT&T you can def buy the prepaid Neon. Just remove the sim card from his current phone and put it in the new one. His plan will stay the same. It beats paying full retail for a phone if you are not eligible for an upgrade. We actually bought the Pre paid Neon for DD and went to the ATT store to activate on our family plan without a contract (No contract because you are providing your own equipment) We did this since this was her first cell phone and if we ended up having to permanently revoke her privileges we wouldn't be obligated to keep the phone activated or pay a termination fee) Just a note if anyone wants to do this make sure you go to an AT&T company owned store, not an authorized retailer and tell them you do not want a contract.

Can you do this with an iphone too? Or does that have to have a contract regardless of how you buy the phone?
