Hi everyone! We will going next month and an unexpected money issue has just come up of course! Not a big deal and it won't cause us to cancel our trip, but it probably will cut down on the aount of money we end up going with and we at least one character/full service meal planned per day. We will be me, DH and DS8 and DS6 who loves the characters. This trip is really for them and we will be enjoying it through their eyes.We are not picky eaters and do just fine with counter service. We will be eating most breakfasts in the room since we will be in a 1 bedroom at OKW. I have put ** next to the ones I am thinking of cancelling. What do you think?

Chef Mickey's Breakfast****
Chef Mickey's Dinner (might miss this anyway since it is the night we arrive)
Le cellier
Sci Fi (my sons choice so we can't skip this one)
Hollywood and Vine (dinner)******
Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch)******
Donald's Breakfastasaurus
Rain Forst Cafe AK *****
Ohana (DH fave)

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I'd go ahead and skip the CM dinner since you might miss it anyway & are already having breakfast there. It'll make it less stressfull too. Since you'll be at OKW you can take the boat to DTD and eat at the Earl of Sandwich when you arrive. I hear they're reasonable.

I'd do a counter instead of LTT & RFC lunch.

I'd get rid of Hollywood and Vine, unless you have to eat dinner at MGM in which case I'd keep it. MGM's counter service choices leave way too much to be desired. I'd also get rid of RFC...very mediocre in my opinion. Eat at Tusker House at AK and no one will feel deprived.

If you have to skip one..... my vote would be Donald's breakfastosaurus. This turned out to be our least favorite meal on our 3-04 trip.

Was not impressed with Donald's breakfast.
H&V is great for the fantasmic package. It is a decent buffet but if not part of the package, I would probably pass on it.
Rainforest cafe is ok. A good one to skip as well.

I would skip Hollywood and Vine and Donalds. There are better places to eat. I would go to Boma's for dinner and go early. The kids will love looking around at this resort. Animals are in several locations. Go early so they will have the time to see the animals before it gets dark. The Crystal Palace is good for breakfast( we usually skip lunch when we eat there)as is Chef Mickeys. Much better than dinner IMO. Rainforest Cafe is OK for food but is fun for the kids to see. Cape May also has a nice buffet as well as a great character breakfast buffet with the characters wear bathing suits. Have fun

I'd keep one CM meal. That is a great place for kids.
Le cellier is good, but my kids got bored there quickly.
Sci Fi always a hit with mine.
Hollywood & Vine, why not just do counter instead? Nothing to special here?
LTT I'd only do the character dinner there. I'd skip lunch and go counter. Columbia Harbour House has good fast food, not the usual crap.
Donald's was a NIGHTMARE. Will never go back there. Wastes of money. We have never been so rushed in our lives.
Rain Forest, I think is nice. Are you DVC? (You mentioned OKW.) You get a 15% discount there.
I'd keep Ohana since your hubby likes it.

Have fun! We're gonna have to cancel a couple of our meals, too for our anniversary trip. With the holidays and then the brakes going out, neighborhood association fees due, a gymnastics birthday party for my youngest, then hubby needs new tires - we are wiped.

Chef Mickey's Breakfast**** if this is the only character meal you have, then keep it.
Chef Mickey's Dinner (might miss this anyway since it is the night we arrive)-- see above... breakfast is better than dinner!
Le cellier-- definitely DON'T miss... great food, and usually good servers. There is this one that has been mentioned, tho......
Sci Fi (my sons choice so we can't skip this one) my DD loved it, but the same movies over and over got a bit old after awhile. Food is very pricey for what it is
Hollywood and Vine (dinner)****** I have only eaten there for lunch when they still had it. Enjoyed the food and the service was good
Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch)****** have only had the dinner, but the menu looks good
Donald's Breakfastasaurus have only heard about this, but hear it is good, and the characters a lot of fun!
Rain Forst Cafe AK ***** Much better than the DTD RFC. Only full service in AK. If you want a good meal for half the cost try Tusker House.
Ohana (DH fave) definitely DON'T miss this one.

Thanks so much for your replies! I think I am going to skip LTT, RFC ad H&V. We always have good luck at Donald's and it is a sort of tradition with us now. We will try Backlot Express since I hear as far as counter service at the studios it is the best. Always enjoy Tusker House so we will do that. We have a RFC here we can go to anytime. I booked it right before the EMH at Ak thinking it would be fun, but it is not necessary. I will definitely keep one Chef Mickey's since it is always a favorite! Thanks again!

If your going to try Tusker House have you thought about trying the food vouchers they offer at Animal Kingdom.

Just one suggestion: Chef Mickey's is good, but I wouldn't go there twice in the same trip.

I would skip Hollywood and Vine. There are better WDW buffets elsewhere.
I had a bad experience with service and the food a few years ago. It is also extremely noisy with all the aluminum tables and chairs.

I would check out the prices for LTT. It is really good at lunch and can cost not much more than a very mediocre counter service meal depending on what you order. No characters but a nice relaxing break with good service and food.

One way that I like to save a few $$ in WDW is to do lunch instead of dinner. A lot of times, lunch is less expensive, less crowded, and you can enjoy much of the same fare as dinner. I do this with Garden Grill (sometimes), 50's PTC, and such. Make a late lunch PS for the all you can eat meals and eat like it's dinner time!

Just want to add my two cents!

RFC-That is the first one I would lose. I really do not like that place! If you have never been, then I guess the atmosphere would be cool for the kids, but I think the food is gross.

Chef Mickey's dinner-I haven't eaten there for dinner, but I would not do breakfast AND dinner there...and I gotta say we LOVE the character breakfast there! That is our favorite character breakfast!!!

I have not eaten at H&V but I haven't heard any rave reviews.

I must agree with the poster who said Boma...although the food is a little exotic and the kids may not be crazy about it. If you go for breakfast, the food is a little tamer. Boma is my new favorite WDW restaurant.

I'd would only do CHef Mickey's once. It might be best to do it the night you arrive since it gives you the feel of Disney without actually going into the parks. /the one I would definitely skip is Hollywood & Vine. We tried it once for the Fantasmic Dinner Package (had previously done Mama Melrose's and Hollywood Brown Derby) and DH and I thought the food and service were horrible.

Chef Mickey's Breakfast****Would not miss this is always the favorite
Chef Mickey's Dinner- would skip since the schedule is tight
Le cellier - pass on this one
Sci Fi (my sons choice so we can't skip this one)
Hollywood and Vine - enjoy this rest with a fant ressie
Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch) - would skip-food pavilion and casey's or the place in tom land have great choices.
Donald's Breakfastasaurus - would not do
Rain Forst Cafe AK - would skip this and go to the flame tree bbq - great food not to expensive!!
Ohana (DH fave)also, my favorite would not miss out on that!!

Are you a DVC member????

I think you should try to do CM for dinner. In our family, this is an EVENT not to be missed.

As for MGM, instead of H & V, what about 50's PTC for a sit-down? Your kids might really enjoy that. Another fun counterservice option in MGM is Toy Story Pizza Planet.

If your trip is really about the kids, you might want to nix Le Cellier, esp since you're doing O'Hana's (which is fun for kids and grown-ups). It's doesn't have much for kids, does it? What about taking the monorail up to Chef Mickey's that night?

Crystal Palace in MK is also supposed to have a nice buffet...

Of course, whichever scenario you choose is a win-win!
