We are going to Disney in Sept. and I am going 3 days earlier than my husband and older daughter. She is his stepchild so he needs a note to take her as he is NOT a legal parent... anyone know a notary??
Thanks...

We had it done at our city hall by the city clerk. Cost $25. Easy and painless.

I have done mine at the post office as being in a small town did not have alot of choice, but there was a commisioner at the post office who was able to do it for us........

I have to get a form notarized & was told to just go to our town office & there is a notary there.

A lawyer can do it too, but not sure how much it will cost.

I had to have a Lease notarized last week....I was told the only person that can legally Notarize in Ontario is a Lawyer. I called City Hall, the Bank, anyone I could think of? City Hall told me they have a 'Commissioner of Oaths' but that is different. Whether or not I was told incorrectly, I cannot say but was not about to take any chances.:confused3

I think it is a Lawyer that can Notarize it though?
I imagine some have themselves set up to be available for such things..
We just went to ours so it wasn't really a problem.

I have had to get letters several times for my DD to travel with other people.

You can go to any lawyer and the cost will be between $35 -$50. Call around and ask for what they will charge then go to the cheapest one. Also, ask them what you need to do and what you need to bring.

You can also go to some city halls. I know that Mississauga can do it and they will charge around $25.

I'm going to our town office today. The form I have says "notary public/commission of oaths" at the signature line.

Then you should be fine...mine said something to the effect 'I certify that I am a Notary Public' so I couldn't have the Comm of Oaths apparantly..

In the U.S banks can sign this form..not here.

It's not true that only lawyers can be notaries. MY dh is a professional engineer and he is one, has the stamp and everything, and has signed letters like this before.

I guess the Clerk at City Hall advised me incorrectly then..but the Bank also told me the same thing? Hmm..

My DD is an Engineer..you mean she could have signed it!?!?!?!
New Graduate tho..not a P Eng yet..

I think it was part of his P Eng designation. I'd have to ask him more about it but he notarized a letter just like OP described last summer (Mother and step-dad wanted to take dd out of the country and dh notarized the letter from the ex-dh giving permission).

My dh is a P.Eng and cannot notarize it here in Alberta. We just usually go to the place where we renew our license plates etc and they have a notary there:thumbsup2

I think you have to apply to some place to be a notary. Red Seal or something like that? There is an official list of Notaries with the Ontario Government I believe & those are the only people that can notarize something. A lot of lawyers are notaries & their assistants can also be notaries. My cousin worked for an insurance agent & she was a notary for some reason. I'm not sure how it all works. If in doubt, call a lawyer, I would guess the most the fee would be would be $50.

I jsut called our town office & they have a commissioner there, which is fine for what i need signed, but they don't have a notary there.
