It's basically Macaroni, Beef, Tomatos and Cheese.

Somebody brought it as a dish to an event I was at. I've been googling it and nothing I've found sounds quite right. This dish did not have tomato sauce, it had chunks of tomatoes and it was baked in a lasagna size pan not made in a skillet. Anyway, I wondered if anybody has a recipe for this dish? These folks called it goulash but I'd personally call it Beefaroni or something like that because it's definitely not goulash.

Oh, also, if there's a healthier way to make such a dish I'd be interested but other than lean beef and reduced fat cheese I'm not sure what else you could do to make it healthier.

So, anybody got a recipe?

Google "Johnny Marzetti". There are so many variations on this casserole that has been around since at least the 1950's. Some are made with noodles, but I prefer elbow macaroni or spaghetti that has been broken into smaller pieces. Perhaps you can find one that meets your needs. A co-worker asked if I had a recipe for "jam-a-zetti", which is what her family always called it. My ex in-laws called it Chop Suey.

My mom used to make a casserole with cooked macaroni, ground beef browned with some diced onion, a can of condensed tomato soup, a can of diced tomatoes, a little chili powder, and cheese on top. There's no real recipe. I think it would be really dry if you didn't use any tomato sauce.

Here's my recipe from Campbell's Soup

Beefy Pasta Skillet
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can tomato soup
1/4C water
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1C shredded cheddar cheese
2C cooked elbow pasta

Brown hamburger and onion, drain then mix all together with cooked pasta. The recipe called for 1/2C cheese but we love cheese so I use a full cup. Place in over and bake on 350 for about 15-20 mins to melt the cheese.

That sounds just like mine - I use chopped tomatoes and tomato soup. I'm having it for supper as a matter of fact. I add chopped celery and green pepper if I have them.

I did and one site says it is from the Boston area. My ex in-laws lived in a Boston suburb. Must be a regional version of the Ohio Johnny Marzetti.

I grew up in the Boston area and that's what we always called that dish. Super easy and fast to make too.
