Need Tips from Recent Ebay Sellers

I need some ebay help please. I have a bunch of dd's clothes & shoes and few other items to sell. I have done the consignment store in the past, but am hoping to get a bit more than they are willing to give.

My questions for folks who have sold recently on ebay:

What ending day has been most successful?
Do you do standard 7 day, or 3/5/10 day auctions?
Do you start really low and risk making $1 for your stuff, or do you start at the least you are willing to take? Or maybe low starting with a reserve price?

Any other tips on selling in these tough financial times would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I just sold DS clothes. I did 5 day auctions that end during the week. Do not end them on the weekend unless it is at night. I find that most people are out doing family stuff/errands and enjoying their time. My personal feeling is the clothes really dont sell as good as they used to. AND there are still TONS and tons of them listed so i dont think you get anymore profits out of listing them for 7 days. I usually want my money quick so i have also done 3 day auctions (clothes only)...say list on monday or tuesday and by friday the auction is over. Oh did i mention i am impatient : )

I used to price at $1 but dont want to get stuck. So i might list 3 pieces for $4.99 and they go up from there. I just did this with Gap and Nike and they ended up doing well.

Good luck!

Don't start your prices out too low. I never start mine lower than 3.00 -- because at least that way if that's as high as it goes then my fees are covered. I have won several auctions at 99 cents, and I feel sorry for the seller who didn't make any money...in fact there have been a few instances where they LOST money on me because they misquoted their shipping and it was higher.

I think groups of 3-5 pieces will probably go better than single items for sale.

Good Luck!!

I'm glad I ran into this thread. I have a TON of Disney World clothes of my DD's to sell. I haven't sold on ebay in a while and was curious if the economy was affecting selling on there.

I just got done selling over $400 worth of stuff on eBay and Craigslist to pay of the remainder of our trip to WDW. :goodvibes Here's what I did...

Do some research and see what a similar item has sold for. Do a search and then in the left hand column, checkmark "Completed Listings". That will give you an idea of what your item has been selling for. If the item is not getting high bids and you feel uncomfortable doing an auction because you are going to lose money you might want to try a "Buy it Now" sale instead and set it for 30 days. I did this hoping someone would come along and buy my old flat panel monitor. They weren't selling for more than $30 but someone bought mine after 12 days for $45!

If you are going to do an auction, start it on a Thursday night at 10 PM EST for 10 days. This allows your item 2 full weekends of view time. 10 PM Eastern is 7 PM Pacific so most people are home from their weekend get-away and getting ready to go back to work. More people online gives you a better chance of a high bidding war.

Start the auction as low as possible and offer free-shipping if the item is small. This gives the illusion of a better deal. More people bid on a great deal and then a bunch of bidding gives the illusion that the item is HOT, HOT, HOT!!

I've had good luck with this strategy. I hope you do too! :woohoo:
