I plan on making up envelopes ahead of time. We are a very neat family of 5 and plan on leaving $5 for Mousekeeping (do they really like to be called this?) and $3 for turndown service. I don't want to be accuse of being cheap - is this enough? Also, we plan on being at the parks most of the day and will need to leave both envelopes in the morning. Should I mark one "Mousekeeping" and one "Turn Down" and where should they be left. Thanks to everyone - this board has been so much help.

The answer for the 'mousekeeping' envelope is much easier than the 'turndown' envelope.

We usually dispense with the envelope and just leave a 'thanks' note on the bed with the gratuity.

If we request turndown (we usually don't)- somehow we make it back to the room for some reason and leave a 'thanks for the turndown' note with gratuity on the bed also.

Good luck!!

I've never stayed at a Disney-owned hotel. Please forgive my ignorance:blush:, but is it the norm to tip the housekeeping staff? I've seen many threads about this, but I've never done that anywhere I've stayed. I haven't stayed at many hotels, either. :p

I don't know about turndown service, but I usually leave my tip the first morning I am there. I usually stay for 5 days and this seems to get me extra towels and mousekeepers (yes, their name)go out of their way to thank you.
Birmbaums recommends $1-$2 per day for Mousekeeping!
ENJOY!

The housekeepers are definitely the MouseKeepers at Disney Hotels! They can really make your stay special! I am in favor of tipping for exceptional service and I do not think $5 for Daily Mousekeeping and $3 for turndown is being cheap!

Too often people tip out of habit and not to reward extra-ordinary service. I usually tip the first day and if my room is made up on time (or early) and/or special touches are left such as towel animals, I consider that above and beyond... deserving of special renumeration through tipping. And I will continue to leave tips. If my room is not made up, trash not emptied, etc... the tipping stops.

Those that just go through the motions and do nothing to contribute to the enjoyment of your stay should receive their salary and nothing more.

It is up to you to decide how best to reward and thereby encourage increased levels of service through tipping.

Is it customary to tip for turn down service and if so how much should I leave for 2 aduts who probably won't be going back to the room once it is cleaned in the morning. This is our first stay with the luxuary of turn down service.

I'm so glad these sort of threads exist here, because otherwise I'd be clueless about tipping 'mousekeeping'.

I'll be printing up some envelopes or little notes before we leave also.

we leave $5 a day for mousekeeping, and $2 a night for turndown, we usually are in our room in late afternoon, freshening up for dinner, so we leave the turndown tip then,

does anyone have the link to that website with the "mousekeeping" envelopes to print up?????

We are a family of three. I was thinking $3 for day and $2 at night?
Definitely doing those envelopes. They are so cute!

Can you request a time for turndown? 7pm would be optimal for us. Is this okay to do?

We are a family of 4. We left $4 in an envelope for mousekeeping and $2 for turndown. We were lucky to recieve some towel animals and other fancy towel things. Most of the time we were back to freshen up before dinner and would then leave the turndown $. One day we had to leave both by sink. We even got a thank you from our turndown person for our tip:wave2:

When we stay at any hotel, we generally leave $1 per day, per person tip for housekeeping or "Mousekeeping" depending on where you are, I guess! ;)

At the risk of sounding a bit stupid...what exactly does "turn down" service do? I've heard of it many times, but obviously never used/requested it. I would assume they turn down the covers, hence the name? Is that it?

I can comment on the tipping aspect....in every hotel I have ever stayed in, we have tiped a minimum of $5.00 per day. This is the same amount if it's just DH and I or DH, myself, and DDx2...I have found that normally, you WILL have the same housekeeper for the majority of your stay. Yes, they will have their days off etc.. but the majority of your stay they will be the same.

Having never stayed at WDW, I am unaware of what happens at those resorts, however in general, we recieve 3X the amount of towels we need, extra coffee, cups etc... at a Four Points recently, we had a mini fridge..the House Keeping noticed I had those little creamer cups on the counter (used that morning..they were empty)...and when we returned that afternoon, I had a dish of them in the fridge for my coffee the next morning. This same hotel, we had gone down with the DD's to breakfast, and the housekeeping staff was just down the hall, ours asked me how long I thought I would be, I said about 1/2 hour...she said, no problem ma'am your room will be complete when you return...sure enough...extra towels....new coffee etc.

I've always found my DD's dolls, or stuffed animals snuggled under the covers, with their heads on the pillows... Usually one of DD's on one bed, one on the other.

My BIL couldnt believe we tipped daily, but once he saw all the extra's we got each day, he began doing the same. He always thought to leave the tip at the end of the stay- but that doesnt get you any special service!....

Just m .02 for what it's worth

We are just back from POR and we are a family of 4. We tipped $2 a day for the first 2 days but quickly realized that "Tinkerbell" was exceptional. She left us towel animals daily and little notes to the kids, "love Tinkerbell". On our first morning we had told her that the kids thought Tinkerbelle snuck in our room and tidied it up while we were enjoying the parks. We left $4 a day for the remainder of the trip. Our Mousekeeper was one of the highlights of our trip.

Wishing everyone a "magical" day.
