Well we need to put a new roof on part of our house, so that is going to take $1500 of vacation money. That sucks!! The condo we rented is only $475 for a full two weeks. So really cant do much better than that. Then the rental car (minivan is the only choice we have) is $461 . Now getting to FL is what I need help with. We are really hoping that Southwest does the friends fly free program like last summer. Then we are looking at $600 for all 6 of us roundtrip out of CT. If they dont do it, we are at $1000, way too high for us. Now, which sounds like the best idea? Fly out of NYC... if we can save $400 on airfare its worth it because then we can use CT limo for $150 (kids are free). It would put us at saving $250. Second choice, take Amtrak right from here. No sleeping berths are $416 for all of us roundtrip (with the 25% discount online) (with one sleeping berth its $583)Or take our van and do the auto train, $783 but then we can eliminate the rental van. But then you add in the gas from CT to VA and back. We dont mind the 8 hr drive though. Now, we would consider driving the full distance but our van is a 1998 with 146k on it right now (we do a LOT of driving). And a rental car out of CT is about $600 right now (just looking at Orbitz). I guess I could try Priceline to see if I can get it down. Anyone want to weigh in? I really want all sides...We are of course hoping for the FFF program and have more time in Disney. Oh, DH also gets paid vacation time so we wouldnt be taking a loss there. I am just soooo lost as to my options! Thanks, Steph
