Does anyone suffer from panic attacks? I do. Having one right now. Any support would be :grouphug:. DH is sick- I have a fear of being sick, and this causes my panic attacks 99% of the time. He's downstairs- I'm upstairs sobbing and shaking. Anyone else have this fear? It's hereditary- my sister, mom, uncle, and grandpa all have this same phobia too. Anybody else in the same boat? Need any support I can get right now.

 I have had a panic attack before so I know how it feels. You need someone or something to distract you and get your mind off of it. Is there anyone you can call to talk??

I was just thinking about calling my mom. That's a good idea.

Do you have medication for this - anti-anxiety meds? If so, take a pill right now..

Find someplace comfortable to sit (or lie down).. Clear your mind - focus only on breathing in and out - slowly.. Once you are calmed down, take a bath (if you have a bath tub upstairs)..

I assume you're seeing a therapist for this? If not, it would be a good idea because there is always going to be "someone" sick somewhere around you..

I hope you can calm down.. The breathing part is the worst when you panic.. Sloooow, even breaths - in and out - thinking of NOTHING but the process of breathing..

Good luck!

Deep breaths, 30 seconds in, 30 seconds out. Is your fear that you'll get sick, too? f so, remember to wash your hands and not to touch your face, eyes, nose mouth, unless you've washed your hands first.

Panic attacks don't allow you to think rationally. What is the worst possible outcome if you do catch his cold? Try to put things in perspective.

I think I had a panic one time, many years ago. It was right after my divorce was final, and at the point where the reality of the divorce was sinking in. It was very scary.
Op, hang-in there. As a pp mentioned, is there anything you can do to distract yourself, at the moment? Do you have any family members or friend you could call and talk to, or anything like that?

Do you know LaMaze breathing? Try focusing on an object and concentrate on your breathing.

After this go-round, might you consider medication? or therapy?

I get panic attacks on airplanes and now take Atavan when travelling. I wish I had taken one last week when I had a huge gold crown removed. I was so anxious!

Hang in there.

Breathe long and slow. Focus on minutea of your everymove, ie. I am walking into the bathroom, I take the doornob with my right hand and turn in, I close the door with my left hip and walk right foot then left foot to the sink. I open the medicine cabinet with my left hand. I reach for the bottle of Advil. Advil is spelled A-D-V-I-L. The letters are blue. and so forth.

This kind of hyper focus could help to break the hold of the panic attack. Good luck and hugs to you. Do you see a therapist? It could be a good thing.

Also, do a reality check. 'Am I in real, serious danger?'

:hug:I have a lot of compassion for anyone who suffers from panic attacks, I've had a few and they are very frightening. Wishing you peace and relaxation~

If you don't have Xanax, talk to your doctor TOMORROW about getting a script for it. There is no need to suffer with a panic attack when help is available out there. Until then, as others have suggested, deep slow breaths.

I have found that putting something on television to distract me helps. DH always uses the show ******* to stifle his bad attacks. Works great!

First, :grouphug: Second (like others have said), breathe in and out...slowly. This is a visual/breathing thing that I was taught years ago. Imagine the speedometer on your car pegged and then breathe in through the mouth and out the nose and imagine the speedometer slowly backing down with each breath. This has been helpful for me and my DS uses this when he has a migraine to focus on something other then the pain, usually it allows him to relax enough to sleep.

I suffer also. You need to breath and focus on your breathing. You need to walk and calm yourself with a mantra, anything will do - the sky is purple. But over and over again. Then you need to find something other than Xanax if you refuse to take it. When I am not at home and don't have my meds I will take a Benadryl as an alternative. The problem with panic attacks is what works for one may not work for others. I also use a heating pad (well I have a rice-microwave roll) and that helps also. Just the action of holding it and it being warmer. You could try something like that also.

Hope it passes soon for you.

OP, how are you doing?
I hope you had someone to talk to through this:hug:
as someone else said you should really see your health care provider for this, since it is an ongoing thing for you.
there are different types of therapies that are possible for your situation, and a mental health provider would be able to help you.
there are also other medication alternatives besides the benzodiazpines ( xananx, ativan, klonopin, etc) depending on how often you experience the panic attacks.
but a med like ativan or xanax, is useful in an acute attack to gain control.

check in and let us know how you are doing.
