I know many of you might be in the same situation so I figured you all could help me out.

Background: My sister has 2 step daughters that I am trying to buy Christmas gifts for (ages Kdg & 2nd grade). Here lies the problem.........Between their mom & her side, and their dad & his side of the family, add in our side & I feel like they are bombarded with gifts that will either be duplicate or sit in the corner after a week or so. They do not have a lot of room in their house & my sister & her husband are expecting their own child in March.

I do not like to buy gifts just so they have something to open (yep, even with my own kids)........so I'm looking for suggestions on maybe experiences to outings. Problem is we live in a remote area, and we dont have musuems or waterparks, etc nearby.

Thanks for your help!!!

What about having a sleep over at your house? You can watch a movie, do arts & crafts, bake cookies.

Don't know your price limit, but how about renting them a bounce house for a day?

Netflix subscription or DVD + warm blankets + popcorn bowl + microwave popcorn = movie night

Croquet set, volleyball/badminton set, tetherball, rollerblades + helmets + pads

children's magazine subscription

cookie cutters + oven mitts + aprons + cookie mix + colorful sprinkles

If there is a nail salon in your town, take them to get their nails painted. I take DD (also 2nd grade) and her friends. It's $7 for fingers, $7 for toes. Gift certificates to this place is also our standard gift to give for little girls bday parties. They love getting this done!

Or have them over one night for movies/paint their nails. You can buy some bright, cheap polish and nail art stickers. Then send the left over stuff home with them.

Also suggesting magazine subscriptions!

I do like the PP's posters idea of a sleepover as we'll.

Another idea, is there a children's theater near you? What about tickets for the three of you to see something? There is a great theater near our house that has children's type of plays several times a year, and they are very reasonably priced.. There is also a professional children's theater which is great, but a little less budget friendly.

My nieces and nephews have just about everything too. I get them each one thing to open but then also give them movie gift cards. I usually make a card inviting them to pick a movie of their choice and then I take them. They love going with me to the movies and i let them pick out one treat at the theater (either a big slushy or candy).

it's not the kind of thing that a lot of people think of as an experience but they love going (they do go with their parents often).

good luck.
