Hi there,

We are going to Hollywood Studios in May with our 6,4, and 1 year old daughters. I am looking for restaurant suggestions aside from Hollywood and Vine and The Brown Derby, both of which are pretty expensive. I am wondering if there are any restaurants with more casual fare, such as burgers and sandwiches. Any suggestions would be great and so helpful. Thanks so much! :)

Melissa

for a table service restaurant you might consider 50s Prime Time Cafe. If you're just looking for a burgers and such Backlot Express is a counter service location that we go to occasionally.

The burger at Sci-fi Dine-In is the best burger we've eaten at WDW. As a matter of fact, it's the best burger I've had in a long time. The fries & onion rings are really good too. It's also a cheaper (by WDW standards) meal. The burger isn't on the dinner menu, but I've heard you could order it anyway. (We ate there for lunch.) I'm not sure how sitting in the cars would work for you family though. There are cars that seat up to 6 (2 per row), so you may be able to come up with a seating arrangement that works for you. If not, there's always the tables. It is fairly dark in there. The atmosphere is like going to a Drive-in movie. If your kids are afraid of the dark, it may be scary to them.

Here's the Sci-fi menus:

but they don't have any reservations for the day we are going! Just my luck. :guilty:

My two favorites from there are Brown Derby and Sci-Fi. Very different so it just depends on what you are wanting.

So far, that's our favs too. We like Sci-fi for lunch, & HBD for dinner. We're trying lunch at 50's in May though. I guess we'll see which we like better then.

We are trying Primetime for the first time in August. I just hate to give up my Sci Fi but have read some good reviews on Primetime.

We loved Primetime. We prefer this over Sci Fi and.
DH was the brunt of everyones jokes and he has a great sense of humour so it was all good. Our neighbouring tables were into it as well so the whole room had a blast!.

Not burgers, but Pizza Planet is a sure bet with my kids. We ate there three times on our last trip. The Toy Story decor is fantastic, plus when it rains, you can play in the arcade. A life-saver with little ones!

I guess great minds think alike - right down to the "bummer". :lmao:

(Another thing we have in common.... Guess what color Tru Blu is???;) - Go Heels!!!)

Too funny! How could we not have great minds? We're Heels fans! :p

I have a feeling we're not going to like 50's as much as we do Sci-fi. We eat TS lunch in lieu of CS, so we like a lighter lunch. 50's doesn't appear to have many good, lighter entrees. I hope we're pleasantly surprised.

Actually, this is the reason we've avoided 50's for so long. We like to relax, & enjoy family conversation during meals. The antics don't appeal to us at all. Plus, I never clean my plate. I really wouldn't be happy, if someone insisted on force feeding me. The decorations sound really neat though, which is why we decided to try it once at least. Hopefully, we'll get a very, laidback server. :goodvibes That said, I can see why some people enjoy the antics, & don't think they should stop them. Most of my sisters' families are more outgoing than my family is. I'm sure they would love it.

Actually, I must confess. This is why I canceled 50's for my last trip in Dec 08. I had Lap Band surgery and can eat a very small amount, but we still do dining plan because DS and DH enjoy it and eat their fair share. I just didnt want it brought to everyone's attention that I didnt eat much. But I have read you can ask not to be included in the fun, we would love it, but I am just funny about that part.

Sci Fi is awesome! We had lunch there last week, burgers, fries, onion rings, reuben....the food was great and the atmosphere very cool...the quietest restaurant I have ever been in

That's the same observation we had. If only all WDW (non-character) restaurants could be that quiet. :cloud9: Expecting that at character meals would probably be a little much. :p Heck, I'd take quiet Signature Restaurants. :rolleyes1

We LOVE 50s Prime Time. It is a must do each trip, unless we are skipping DHS for some reason. I have heard that Mama Melrose's and Backlot Express are good. I can let you know after June. :thumbsup2

Our favorite food at DHS is at the Backlot Express which is right beside Star Tours. It is counter service, so you don't need an ADR. We have eaten at every restaurant at the studios through the years. We like Sci Fi and I always ask for a burger there even if they don't have it on the menu at times. They always are able to get me one.

We hated Holly wood and Vine. yuck. It was SO LOUD in there. Primetime was ok - but we didn't get a "good" waitress who played the theme like everyone talks about.

We didn't really like the Brown Derby. The dessert was good though. It was just really expensive for food that we weren't crazy about.

Hate the ABC Commisary. Like Mama Melrose. And we like Pizza Planet.

But the Backlot is the one we continue to visit.
