My DD is getting into photography. She really loves editing her photos (whether serious or silly.) All the software I saw on sale earlier this week was more on the "professional" end. Any suggestions?

Photoshop is the most popular software out there right now for editing. They have several versions . This is the way I would go. Get her an older less expensive edition to start with. My DD first started using photoshop at around 12 years old. It's also what they use to teach photo editing at her School in the photography classes.

If you want to go the photoshop route, I'd start with Photoshop Elements. I've seen deals for $50 recently. This program would allow her to do tons of traditional photo effects, as a professional photographer would do to edit their pictures. I don't know what you mean by "fun" but I used it to take a clip-art of an airplane, cut out the windows, place my kids faces in the windows and make the airplane fly over Sleeping Beauty Castle (using a picture of it I had taken) and add the words "you're going to Disneyland." Not sure if it's more "professional" than what you're looking for, but the price certainly is more reasonable than regular photoshop!

I'm going to assume you have a PC, but I use a Mac and there are a lot of fun photography apps in the app store. I got one called CameraBag for about $30 and it's got a lot of built-in edits and you can also do your own. You may also look in to digital scrapbooking software in addition to photography software. Then, she can do some meaningful memory-keeping with her photographs. :)

LIghtroom 3 is great for editing and organizing photos. The student edition is pretty reasonable.

Gimp is a popular alternative to photoshop, and its free.

If she's used to photoshop though, it might be a bit frustrating for her to use. It's very similar to photoshop, but many features don't work quite in the same way as you would expect if you are used to photoshop. It's free so it might be wrth a try.

:thumbsup2 That is the type of stuff I think she would enjoy.

Thank you all for the info.!
