i know, the title is odd, but i don't know what else to do! i bought my daughter a red, patent leather nook cover, and she LOVES it, but it is suede on the inside, and it STINKS to high heaven! it smells so bad, she can't stand to be near it! i put it outside over night, in below freezing temps, i thought airing it out might help. nope, still just as stinky. i put leather conditioner on it, inside and out, still just as stinky.
what else can i do, without ruining the suede? i really don't want to have to send it back (of course, i will, if necessary), because DD loves the color.

My nook cover is super soft inside, and it doesn't smell. Where did you get it? I wonder if you got a "bad" one.

i'm beginning to wonder. it's a boxwave cover, ruby patent leather. it's GORGEOUS outside, but the gray suede inside STINKS! i googled and it said i could use vinegar and water and that would eliminate the odor, but it didn't do a thing, it stinks just as bad now as it did before. it also said i could tie it up in a bag with baking soda, but that takes 5 days.
a friend suggested i spray it with febreze and put it outside for 2-3 days.

i would definitely return it, if i hadn't bought it online. i've never had to return to buy.com before, so i'm not sure if it would be worth the hassle. also, DD is in love with the look of the outside, which is really what is motivating me to try to eliminate the smell.

I bought my mom a Coach purse on Ebay which smelled like cigerette smoke. I sprayed it w/Fabreeze put in some Bounce sheets and sealed it in a zip lock bag, put it outside and it worked well. Good Luck, sounds like if you already tried vinegar you may need to send it back, ask them if they all smell that way.

i've got it outside now, after spraying the inside well with febreze, and am going to leave it out there overnight. a friend of mine, who works with leather, sent me a message on facebook and said to put it in a gallon ziploc with a few tea bags (plain, black tea) for about 12 hours. i guess if the febreze doesn't work, i'll try the tea bags, then a ziploc and baking soda.
