If I could suggest a slightly different route that may work out for the long term as well: buy an Aeropress. They pack small, are easy to use, and are a very nice way to turn even mediocre ground coffee into something far less bitter. I've had an Aeropress for a while now, and it makes excellent coffee. I've kept it at work to give a quick pick me up and to make the the ground coffee at work almost tasty. I've packed it with me a few times on trips and have used the coffee makers in room to heat up the water. I bring my own coffee when possible or try to find a place where I can pick some up. The coffee comes out a little more concentrated than a normal pot, a lot closer to that of espresso. I highly recommend them for general coffee drinking, and especially for travel.
