Just came back from a glorious 13 days at WDW. I started my first trip report last week (which I hope to continue soon) only to learn my job was on the line and didn't have the head to continue. :scared1:

Well it is official, I will be jobless next week. Can you all send some pixie dust my way.

I really have to try to do everything in my power not to put my beloved DVC for sale. I have never enjoyed anything as much as I do DVC and Disney and will be sick if it comes to that as well.

I have to be blessed that we all have our health right now (DH had major illness 2 years ago and his finances are limited) but very scary times ahead.

Just needed to vent.

Thanks all

I am so sorry to hear about your job. I am also glad you job to go to WDW for 13 glorious days. I know you said your job is officially gone, but do you qualify for unemployment? If so, make sure you jump right on it so you don't have any lapse. Then I'd make a plan on getting a FT job. My BFF's husband has been looking a long time for a job but I think if he had made is new FT job looking for a job, then he would already have one by now. He chose to do some things around the house, be on Facebook, etc and several opportunities came across that he just missed.

I know you are scared and probably nervous but you didn't state if you have children at home and such so I'd look at any and all possibilities - maybe get into a passion of yours that you've always wanted to do.

Best of luck - Diane :grouphug:

I will be there this weekend and will pick up as much pixie dust as I can, then send it your way!

Best to you! In 2001 I was laid off shortly after a trip to WDW. I got a couple of interviews arranged--then a couple of planes hit a couple of buildings and hiring across the US stopped completely for 6 months. It's tough but you will get through it. Keep us posted.

I wish you success in finding a good job soon!pixiedust:

so sorry to hear that! will send some your way and hope you find something very soon!!:grouphug:

I would like to send you some Pixie dust. One of the best ways to find a job is through networking. Ask anyone and everyone you know if their company is hiring. A lot of my friends got inside jobs that way. Good luck!!!!! You are in my prayers:grouphug:

You're right about being blessed with health. That is number 1.

Hope it works out for you.

Good luck on the job search. I agree about getting a jump on unemployment. Also, you may consider hitting the temp agencies first. A six-month contract can get you the income while you look for something permanent, and temp jobs are the first to be created in a recovery.

Good advice.

I also was downsized right after a trip to WDW in October, 2009. I"m still unemployed but actually enjoying it. The last 3 or 4 months I have been working again as a contractor for my old employer when they needed me back. If I could, I'd do this forever. Much less stress.

Good luck with your job hunt!

So sorry for your situation, hopefully things will turn around soon. You've gotten excellent advice from others as to job situations, what I would like to add is that perhaps if you need to, you can rent out your DVC points rather than sell them. That way, when your situation is better you will still have your wonderful DVC to enjoy.

hum, I found out my job ends June 24th and ran out and bought DVC! I am also moving into a new house in a new state after coming back from Disney next week! I believe things happen for A reason!!

Best of luck to you, check out those temp jobs, sometimes they lead ya right to a permanent job.

I am so sorry. My husband lost his job after 25 years with the company he worked for and was out of work for a year and a half. They were scary and difficult times, and we almost sold DVC because it felt like such a non-necessity to have it when we were worried about holding on to our house. But we survived, and he's working again, and I'm so glad we didn't sell our points. Try to remember that bad times get better again, and most of the time the scary things we worry about in the middle of the night never come to pass. The economy is still not great, but I think it's improved since DH lost his job, and I hope you will find something else quickly.:grouphug:

Prayers are with you, and plenty of pixie dust! Hope you find something soon.

Thanks so much for all the advice and pixie dust!

I must have put in 20 applications yesterday and will continue; just hope something (even a temp job) happens soon. With good planning and less expensive groceries I think we can squeek by for a couple of months.

We are suppose to go to WDW in December. It is a way down the road and who knows what could happen so I am not going to cancel unless I absolutely have to as the only thing I would have to purchase is food and ticket for DS.

You read about this all the time with this economy but never assume that it could happen to you next. I guess I will have no excuses not to have my house clean now!!:rotfl:

I just want to thank you for all the pixie dust because it worked :dance3:

I was offered a full time job as well as 2 part time/per diem jobs. Of course I will take the full time job and probably make a little extra money (maybe for more points one day:rolleyes1) and work an occasional saturday at one of the places that offered me part time/perdiem.

This means that I will have no worries about my December DVC vacation especially since I told them about the time that I need off once they offered me the job!!

Now my next big decision is my December ADR's and the Candlelight Processional! And just made my May 2012 reservations.

Maybe now I can finish the trip report that I started about my glorious 13 days at AKV/BCV!!

Thanks again!!!

Mimmie:)
