Need song ideas for 50th anniversary!

Thanks so much!! I have to try to think of a way to ask my grandma about her wedding without her getting suspicious--she doesnt know were having a big dinner or anything!
Thanks for ALL your help!

I always liked "Because you loved me" by Celine Dion. I danced with that with my dad at my wedding.

Have a great party Jen! I'm sure it'll be wonderful. How nice of you! :)

Kisses Sweeter Than Wine (lyrics below)
Well, when I was a young man never been kissed
I got to thinkin' it over how much I had missed
So I got me a girl and I kissed her and then, and then
Oh, lordy, well I kissed 'er again

Because she had kisses sweeter than wine
She had, mmm, mmm, kisses sweeter than wine
(Sweeter than wine)

Well I asked her to marry and to be my sweet wife
I told her we'd be so happy for the rest of our life
I begged and I pleaded like a natural man
And then, whoops oh lordy, well she gave me her hand

Because she had kisses sweeter than wine
She had, mmm, mmm, kisses sweeter than wine
(Sweeter than wine)

Well we worked very hard both me and my wife
Workin' hand-in-hand to have a good life
We had corn in the field and wheat in the bin
And then, whoops oh lord, I was the father of twins

Because she had kisses sweeter than wine
She had, mmm, mmm, kisses sweeter than wine
(Sweeter than wine)

Well our children they numbered just about four
And they all had a sweetheart a'knockin' on the door
They all got married and they wouldn't hesitate
I was, whoops oh lord, the grandfather of eight

Because she had kisses sweeter than wine
She had, mmm, mmm, kisses sweeter than wine
(Sweeter than wine)

Well now that I'm old and I'm a'ready to go
I get to thinkin' what happened a long time ago
Had a lot of kids, a lot of trouble and pain
But then, whoops oh lordy, well I'd do it all again

Because she had kisses sweeter than wine
She had, mmm…kisses…sweeter…than…wine

While all these songs are very very nice - I know that my parents who have been married 44 years now, wouldn't know many of the songs posted. As someone stated up thread - "ask them". My parents LOVE big band music. Music from the late 50's and early 60's (not hippie love music,, but Rat Pack, stuff) they don't care for the soda shop type 50's music. You really need to ask them.

I don't know what year it is from, but I've always loved 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong:

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
(George Weiss / Bob Thiele)

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"

I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

Oh yeah

Why don't you tell her that someone on the Dis was debating about Because by Perry Como as a favorite wedding song from 50 years ago. Then you could even pull up the wedding song thread. That way you could get her to talk and not be suspicous. That might work.

There's a song called "On the Front Porch" by Burl Ives that on Disc Two of the Classic Disney Collection.

It's such a sweet song about growing old together. DH and I definitely want to use it if we ever have an anniversary celebration.
