Hey Everyone! DH just agreed to go away again next year, just not to WDW. :sad2: He will not do a cruise and really doesn’t enjoy the beach. Can anyone give me some ideas for an affordable vacation. We did Williamsburg a few years ago and enjoyed it, but wanted to try something new. Also, hoping to be pregnant real soon :goodvibes So, i'd like a "pregnant friendly" vacation. Thanks!!! :)

Ummm......both New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island are nice (and affordable). I was 5 months pregnant when we went there. However, I'm not sure you want to leave the country or travel that far.

oh yeah...forgot to mention, DH doesn't like to leave the country either. Do you see what i'm dealing with here??!!! lol

We went to New England (Vermont and NH) when I was pregnant with my 4th child. It was a lot of fun to see the sights. We took a side trip to Montreal, which we enjoyed a lot. Another time we went to Southern New England (we're saving Maine for another trip). There were all kinds of things to do in New England, from factory tours, to cranberry bogs, to outdoor type things, to the Basketball Hall of Fame, to Boston, etc, etc. Of course it depends on where in New England, but there are lots of Bed and Breakfasts to stay in, which are fun. Is it just the two of you as of now?

Yes, it is just the 2 of us. New England sounds wonderful. I've also thought about Connecticut or Cape May (where we got engaged). But i don't think there's enough to do for a week.

When we went to So New England, we went to CT, RI, and MA, spending several days in Boston. Basically we were on the road a lot, but that's easy to do if it's the two of you (we had 3 kids both of our NE trips  ). And then when we went to VT and NH, we did the same kind of thing, on the road a lot. Our kids hated it that second time when they were older. They liked what we were doing, but not going from place to place. But you don't have to worry about pleasing kids and my DH and I loved it. You could stay at some romantic Bed and Breakfasts. Make it a trip to remember. :)

Thank you so much for your input, it's been very helpful. I'm going to start looking into it!

I'm not sure what you really like but here are some of my fav things not suggested yet

A cabin in the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and a short drive to NC to see Ashville and Biltmore Estates

North California trip to see the wine country and San Fransico

Southern California is beautiful with San Deigo. We rented a convertible on that trip and packed a picnic and took a drive up the coast. Still one of our fav memories from the trip.

I love San Antonio but not in the dead of summer, when its awful hot. Lots of things to do with the riverwalk and the Alamo. Other places in Texas is a good too with each being so different from the other whether its Dallas or Austin.

Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, GA are beautiful areas as well.

Chicago is a wonderful city with shopping, site seeing and nighttime activities.

My husband and I have been to Colorado twice in the summer. Weather is fantastic. We enjoyed Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Glenwood Springs, Leadville.

Colorado is so beautiful.

See, your first problem was not getting him to agree to take you away to good places before you got married. :)

I promised that I would live and die in the town in which DH was born/raised. He promised to take me away to good places several times per year. He never traveled before he met me.

He doesn't like living up to his end of the bargain, but has fun when we're away and he's very well traveled now. You should here him give travel advice when someone asks what to see or where to eat in various places. We're actually toying with either Hawaii or London for next year's big trip.

Last summer, I was able to book 6 days & 5 nights at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana for about $800 per person. That included the flights, lodging, transfers, hurricane insurance and all meals and drinks. The resort was very nice. The food was good and plentiful as were the drinks. Our kids had a blast and my parents and sister came with us.

You'd be hard pressed during the summer to find something in Cape May for a similar price with meals, plus, there's no substitute for the azure waters of the caribbean.

So, my suggestion is to give him some xanax and get him on a plane to the Dominican Republic. Call it a second honeymoon... whatever you need to do to get him to go.

Good luck in getting him "outa Dodge."

Actually, if you can't get him to DR, my next suggestion would be Ogunquit, ME. We went there for 7 years straight for a week at a time. The restaurants are wonderful. The beaches are clean. It's a very family-oriented environment. There is a large gay community there, so don't choose Ogunquit if your DH has problems with that. Things are laid back and while you'll be able to identify the gay and lesbian couples, my kids never even noticed that some of the couples were not male/female.

I would second that. Grand Lake is also a good Colorado destination.

As a former NJ resident, however, I would also suggest Hershey, PA and Amish Country. DW and I used to make a weekend trip of this every year.
