I have a mobile broadband contract. I took it out at New Year and generally have no problems aside from occasional slow download speeds, but nothing serious for the most part.
Because I have a 3G contract I keep an eye on the little usage counter which I always set at the start of the new billing period. I have never gone over as this is about right for my needs.
About 3 months ago I the counter popped up on my screen and clocked up around 500MB within seconds. Going through the usage types I discovered that it was "roaming usage". (The normal usage shows as UK usage). I don't have roaming enabled. The provider confirmed this. Not only that, I was sitting here at home in Scotland. When my account came at the end of that month, sure enough, it did not reflect the "roaming" quota, but only the figures of normal usage.
Tonight, same thing has happened, except that this time it is 1480 MB (roaming again). Now I am assuming this is a glitch in the counter. I can't confirm anything with the provider as they can't give info until AFTER the close of the billing period.
Is there a way to get another counter? Does it sound like this is a likely problem? It is really annoying as once it gets to my usage limit, it shuts off the internet and I still have 2 weeks to go before the next billing zone starts. Thanks for any advice. I am clueless about this.
