Need some medical advice

So it seems very odd to post this on a discussion board, but its 2am, I'm paranoid and this is so not an ER type thing. I woke up about 45 minutes ago to use the bathroom and noticed my cheeks are very puffy, an odd pinkish color, and warm to the touch. (comparing to my forehead and neck) I have a ton of allergies but this is unlike any reaction I've ever had, plus I haven't had any new meds or foods. Anyone have this before? And if so, what the heck do I do about the swelling?

I'll take a stab at it....Are you having any other symptoms? Did you take your temp? Are you itching? Any difficulty breathing? Is your tongue or lips swelling? Those last couple are emergency situations, btw.

Were you out in the wind today? I will get what almost looks like a sunburn from the cold wind. I have very sensitive skin though. Did you change laundry products recently? Could you be reacting to fabric softener or detergent on your sheets? You could react if they are new and not yet laundered.

As for the swelling, cool compresses/ice packs for 20 min. on/20 min. off will usually reduce swelling. Taking benedryl or another antihistamine should help any itching and also swelling. I would consider giving your doctor's office in the am if it doesnt' go away and discuss it with the on call doctor.

Remember, any difficulty swallowing, breathing or rapid increase in the swelling is a 911 call.

As long as it's just your cheeks, I wouldn't worry too much. Although you should probably make a doctor's appointment to discuss this with the doctor.

However, if you also experience swelling around your eyes, or if your lips or tongue swell, or if you have any trouble breathing...these are signs of more severe allergic reactions. These symptoms can progress rather quickly and require immediate medical attention.

Any itching or hives?
