Hi! We are going to be driving from Dayton to Universal in July. We are going to divide it up into 2 days. We have been trying to figure out a couple of things. First, when is a good time to leave and second, where to stop for the night. We were thinking outside of Atlanta, but there are so many different areas to stop. Any suggestions of towns and/or hotels would be great. It would be nice to stop at a place that offers breakfast in the morning. If any of you have traveled this route down 75 we would appreciate your input. Thanks.

Welcome to the boards!

I'm not sure about the breakfast angle, but geographically I would encourage you to stay at a location south of Atlanta. That way you get to skip our terrible rush hour congestion.

Thanks! I just meant a good hotel that offers breakfast in the morning. Sorry if I confused you. Appreciate the advice.

We've driven down from SW Michigan several times.

The first day we would get on the road by 3:30 am and stop for the night in Tifton, GA ... south of Macon. This put us 4 hrs away from Orlando. It is nice to get through the mess that is always Atlanta. Seems like they are always doing construction south of Atlanta as well.

If you try for Tifton or Valdosta, it will be a fairly easy drive into Orlando on your second day.

Both Tifton and Valdosta have many hotels to choose from that are right off the highway and have complementary breakfast in the morning. We have stayed at the Hampton Inn Tifton and really liked it; however, it started getting a little expensive. Then we used the Ramada (I think) at the same exit - not quite as nice, but still had the breakfast and was quite a bit cheaper.

I would always make my reservation in advance because it is a highly traveled area and I don't want to go "looking" for a hotel room after a day of driving!!

This would also be my advice. Holiday Inn Express or Fairlied Inn also have a decent breakfast. I would also purchase Along I-75 by Dave Hunter. Starting from Detroit to the end of Georgia it has every hotel and resturant and gas station listed from each exit along I-75. It also list's the rest area's. Susan
