need some imput please

I did something out of character for me. I started talking to a guy through AOL and now that I am not on aol anymore we contnue to talk through instant messanger. I never belive you could meet someone this way but this guy has captured my interest. we think alike, can sit for hrs at the computer and share thoughts and ideas about life. we exchanged picture so ther would be no surprises if we decided to meet. he is a corrections officer at a hig profile jail in MA. I have been honest with this guy but I did fib about what town i live in. I am playing it cautiously, he is 48 i am going on 46 next month. Has anyone met their guy through this way? I have dated in the real world and as you know I was with Brian for a while, I knew him since 18 so he was different, HELP ,please with some imput of what you think

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as you play it smart... meet in a group or a very public place. I had dinner with a friend who leaves Saturday to go MARRY a guy she met online 4 years ago!

I would encourage you to not make any decisions and definately keep your feelings in check until you actually meet face-to-face. Very often people are not what they seem on-line.

That being said, I am hearing more and more stories of people who have met on-line and have gone on to marry. A dear friend met her husband this way, and they both seem very suited for one another. I guess meeting on line is equivalent to the bar scene, which was the way we met people when I was younger.

What kind of imput do you want? What we think of meeting someone like that, or how to meet them?

I think it's great that you have someone you like to talk to. I just want you to be very careful. People have met this way and lived happily ever after, people have been killed this way too.
Most important, keep your heart intact until you really know him. As in face to face knowing him.

Gail, my MIL met her husband online and he lived in England. They have been married for 4 years now. We were cautious in the beginning, but we saw that he made her happy. Being cautious on your part is fine. I would if I were you. Good luck and keep us posted.
