Okay, after some discussion, my wife has surprised me and is thinking of staying for our anniversary at Portofino and hitting the parks in October. (First and foremost, this is so exciting for me because I am the one usually with the surprises for her and to top it off, she wants to spend our anniversary at one of my favorite places in this world). So here is my dilemma, during our stay (if we do this) it will also be her birthday. Does anyone have any suggestions of something special I could do for her to surprise her????

I'm usually good at this, but am at a loss right now. I think it's the excitement!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Thanks in advance!!!!

I would like it to take place at one of the parks or even the resort!!!!!

Thanks again!!!

Try to locate Party of Six. She is the Portofino Expert and also a Romance Expert. I have stayed there and just the resort alone is very romantic!

What a wonderful surprise!! You lucky dog! See I think she has fallen so nicely into the whole "we must get back to Universal plan ASAP"! You have been chanting in her ear each night havent you! Or do you just play the tape player on loop through the night? Hee Hee:p

All those wasted posts about going back next summer....uh huh sure. So lets see instead of going back in 12 months its now 3? You are good! Actually thats how I started and we average 3-4 trips a year! But you're already in Fla and I expect you will never plan the annual trip again! But all this is a great thing and I am so happy for you.

Portofino is the bestest place for a celebration! We celebrated my B-Day there this year and an anniversary there the year before.

You can contact the hotel directly, concierge for some great ideas. My husband had them bake me a cake I have to dig those pics out it was a work of art! They served it at dinner at Tchoup Chop. He also decorated the room with my boys while he sent me out to the Spa. It was all very special and I still smile thinking about it.

I would look into Mama Dellas for the special dinner or even Delfino Riviera. Both have wonderful service with a warm atmosphere and terrific food! Delfino's would be very romantic and a bit more upscale. They are closed sundays and mondays however so keep that in mind.

The Greenhouse spa is very indulgent and relaxing and you could even book a his and hers massage if you wanted to. Have a look here for services offered and prices.

Have fun planning my friend!:D

Take her to the Ghostbusters Show. Eye candy makes for a sweet gift.........

.....OK just kidding...

When are you going??? Maybe I'll be there and can say "Hi!!"

I have no idea what you should do for your wife...but anything at Portofino Bay would be nice...it's very beautiful there.

Hey, that's really sweet. You should take her surprise, and turn it on her. Make the whole birthday celebration a secret, and spring it on her at the last minute.

Hey Spidey! Sounds like you have a wonderful trip full of surprises coming up! Again, I am jealous! ;)

I don't have any suggestions since I have only been with family, but I just wanted to say good luck with your planning. I can't wait to hear what you come up with!

Jess- You gave my secret away!!!! But it worked!!!!! I love the whole bake a cake idea. Maybe I can have them set up the room for me as a party for her!!!! Also love the dinner plans

Fly Fly---LOL.... If I take her to the show, maybe she won't want to see me!!!!! LOL..... Just kidding. We will be there first weekend of October if it all pans out!!!!

Doc-That's exactly what I want to do. I normally do these types of things, but the fact that she is doing it this time around and surprised me yesterday, was a real treat!!! I'm a lucky guy, I tell ya!!!!

themepark- I will keep you and everyone posted!!!!

I love these boards!!!!

spidey........ is it just going to be you and your wife??? or do you have kids???

If no kids............ you could check with the portifino and see if maybe they would set up a table with candles for a romantic dinner by the pool...... after it gets dark......... you could tell her that you are taking her to dinner, then just go to the pool....... to the table, maybe they could help you with the food also........ but, I'm sure that would be expensive.......... or maybe you could just do the same thing......after you go to dinner, and they could bring you both a glass of wine, then you could read her a poem you wrote or give her your gift......... I'm sure you'll think of something.......... I'll keep thinking........ and get back to you!!!! :D

Can you tell I'm a sucker for romance................

Spidey,

I just figured out what you can do......... ok here goes.., over at the RPR, the have tables out by the pool, that have the "top" covered, like an umbrella, but not......... ok, well, you could ask the staff at the RPR if you could have them put a tablecloth on one, and some candles, and a vase with roses....... all of this you could purchase yourself....... not to expensive, and just have them set it up......... designate a time, then take her to a birthday dinner somewhere, then on your way back......... take the boat over to the RPR, and then go to "YOUR" table......... then have them bring out a glass of wine...... or her favorite drink....... then give her a gift or poem or whatever............. that would be soooooo romantic. I suggest the RPR for the "Island" feel, but you could do it at any of the hotels............ It seemed like when we were there a couple weeks ago that you could kind of get one of those tables in a cozy little corner....... the one's on the sand, by the zero entry part of the pool......... it would be beautiful!!! OK, still thinking.......... but that would be really nice and inexpensive. She would feel like a princess.......... and you'd be a "KING"!!! Good Luck!!

And maybe you could get one of the entertainers from one of the RPR restaurants to come and serenade you a little bit, there are some great island instrument players and performers that would make it very memorable.

That takes the cake. I love that idea. To answer your question, we do have our son, but we are thinking of leaving him for this trip only because it is our anniversary. If not we would definitely include him. We are really struggling with this because we took him to Universal and he had an awesome time.

Thanks again. I love that and will look into it some more.

Wendypooh and damo have great ideas. And keep it a secret, so she'll flip.

Spidey -
I'm so happy for you! I knew you couldn't wait until NEXT summer! LOL I wish my hubby would surprise me, but he is just not that type, and I love him anyway ;) .

I don't have any romantic ideas, but just want you to know we are struggling with kid thing too. The kids had such a great time this summer, we haven't even told them we are going without them. They won't take it well, but I am really looking forward to this alone time with my hubby. I think any marriage needs it. Good luck with whatever you chose - are you set on Portifino? Or considering the other two as well?

here's the plan. We booked Portofino bay for one night. (standard rate and got upgraded to bay view with the special I got). We are going to go to Universal and IOA if time permits. If not, only IOA. I contacted the resort and they are going to help me with baking a birthday cake for my wife. Also, they asked if I would like the room to be decorated. Well, this sparked a new idea. Since we are at Universal and she loves Betty Boop I went online and found everything needed to theme a party to Betty Boop. Concierge is going to decorate the room with the stuff I ordered and they are setting me up with a Betty Boop doll collectible to be in the room for her. We are going to have a lunch celebration at Mythos and an anniversary dinner at Del Fino Rivera's. I am so excited.

How does this sound?

The only thing is that we are leaving our 3 year old and I feel terrible. He LOVES Universal and keeps asking when I am taking him back and we will definitely take him back, but the wife thinks since it's our anniversary it should be "alone quality time"

I agree but can't help but feel bad.

:(

You shouldn't feel too bad Spidey, because chances are you won't spend much time at the parks. :) I'm not sure how much fun he'd have watching his lovey-dovey parents eat dinner or something while the parks are right in the backyard!! :p

Anyway, the idea is wonderful!!! She's going to love it, I am sure!! :D

If you guys have any other suggestions, let me know!!! I appreciate it!!!

I just ate at Delfino's this past Tues., and while it is pretty, I thought the food wasn't worth the price. Our dinner cost over $200.00 which for a fine dinning experience isn't bad, but I wasn't wowed by the food. My husband stopped by before we were to go and requested a table by the window. He was told that we couldn't because those all sat six. He was reassured that we would have a table with a view of the bay, just not by the window. We get there, there are three other tables in the place with people at them, I think two other tables were seated after us during the night. Needless to say there were empty tables by the window the entire time we were there. We could see the sky, but not the bay.
Sorry this is a negative report, but I really do try to be objective when posting. This is one restaurant I think can be skipped. I did enjoy my meal at Momma Della's though. the food was very good, and the waiter was one of the best I have had in a long time!
Now, the next time I go back would you like to know what I will do for a romantic dinner with my husband? I'll go to Sal's Deli and get some salads or tasty sandwiches, sit outside and eat and enjoy the view! Oh did I mention I would also have a really fantastic bottle of wine or champagne?!!! Ahhhh...... now that's romantic!

Thanks for the honest review. I love the picnic idea. I wonder if they would let me have a candlelight picnic out by the bay in the evening. What do you all think? Cheesy or romantic?

You guys are really going to help me score some brownie points!!!!
