Tomorrow is my son's 20th Birthday. We have a tradition on birthday's that we eat at our favorite restaraunt. So tomorrow night I have to eat at Olive Garden.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can eat without totally killing Atkins.
The stuffed chicken looks good if I have it without the pasta, and the salad is always good. I will have to be strong to avoid those breadsticks.
I checked out a website that someone recommended called Deb's diet or something like that. According tho that everything they serve has over 40 carbs except the chocolate cheesecake which she listed as having 1 carb.
Should I just order 3 cheescakes? Peggie

It is hard...but when special occasions/things come around..hubby and I take one day...eat/celebrate and the next morning right back on the atkins way of life. The longer we are on atkins, the less it affects our weight gains/losses for the week.

It will take you a few days to a week to recover whatever you eat...but, how many more dinners is the kid going to want to eat with the folks for a while. I say...go and enjoy.

Otherwise...check out the menu online...there look to be quite a few meat dishes...just don't have the potatoes...maybe they could bring you some steamed veggies. Pork, t-bone, chicken.
I think you will do fine and have a great meal if you choose not to take a day off.

Maybe you could ask them to make you something special. Explain to them you can't have carbs. Maybe they could make you something with Chicken, cheese, veggies. Are the stuffed mushroom appetizer's bad?

I also agree, that your son won't want to go out with you too much longer........well he might, but he will get married some day etc.......it won't be the same. Enjoy your night!

I would go for the 3 cheesecakes!!! LOL!

Seriously, I don't know much about atkins but I bet if you ask them they could alter a dish. I know that I have special ordered things there and have always been accomidated.

It is great that you are thinking about this ahead of time so you will be prepared. Hey - maybe even call them and talk with them ahead of time to see how they can help.

Good luck and have a great time out with your son.

Thanks for all your advice, I will go and try to be strong. I have been on Atkins for 6 weeks now and only lost 10 lbs. I don't want to blow it in one meal. I go tomorrow for my thyroid tests and hopefully they will find a reason for why I am not losing the way everyone else is. I am sticking to this diet so good.
I now have to chose my meal. all of these sound good, guess I have to wait for tomorrow and see what kind of a mood I am in, will it be a beef or chicken or fish night.
And although my boys are getting older they look forward to our dinner out every year. My oldest is getting married next summer and he still calls to make sure we are going out on his birthday. He is 27, my middle son is 24 and my baby is 20 tomorrow. But they love always spend their birthday with their mom. I always welcome a friend or two and the oldest does bring his fiance.

The last time I went to the Olive Garden, I asked for the caesar dressing on the salad and I had the mixed grill with no potatoes and extra vegetables. It was very filling and very satisfying. I didn't feel "deprived" of anything.

There would be considerably fewer carbs if you don't eat the potatoes that come with those meals.

Good luck on the thyroid tests, that may be part of your slow loss (but at least you are losing).

Any of those meals would be fine if you don't eat the potatoes. Have some salad first. Ask for the dressing on the side so you don't have to use so much. Put the breadsticks on the far side of the table so they're not so tempting.

I can't imagine the cheesecake only having 1 carb. They are usually loaded with sugar so have lots of carbs.

Happy birthday to your DS. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful meal together. :)

Well I made it through my first eating out experience.
I drank water because they only had diet coke and I am avoiding all caffeine.
I had some salad, tried to pick the greens with the least amount of dressing, it always soaks to the bottom.
I didn't even want the breadsticks which is such a surprise, I usually at 4 or 5 in times past.
I had the chicken Sienna, chicken breast stuffed with cheeses. I didn't touch the pasta at all.
They brought a small 8 inch cake for my son and I got to cut it up. There were 6 of us and no one was really hungry after dinner so I cut small pieces, we brought home 3/4 of the cake, so I at 1/6th of 1/4 cake. and it wasn't really that good, much too sweet and rich for me now. In the past I bet I could have eaten at least 1/4 on my own.
I tested my ketones tonight and I am burning some, not dark, but at least I am showing some.
We all can do it if I can do it. Peggie

Congratulations, Peggie! :Pinkbounc
