Hello all...I could use some imput...feedback...from you guy's....I read the message boards constantly and let me tell you that I enjoy reading what you guys have to say...we will be visiting WDW soon...have always debated buying into the vacation club...but I worry that after my wife and I do not use it any more...my daughter is 23 now and a great Disney fan...but who knows if mom and dad are not around any more if she would use it...and ofcourse you have to pay the maint. fees each year....we have been going to Disney since she was 9 months old....twice..sometimes 3 times a year mostly off peak times....are you guys really satisfied with everything and the value for the money you paid....did you feel you get your monies worth....and how many points is average purchase on your first buy...I do know that many people buy more..sometimes at other resorts...and is the best way to go buying from Disney since there are resales out there.....just need to pick your brains a little....and thanks for your time....

Tom....whew, got a little winded just reading your questions?

But I think I picked out a few concerns.

What if your daughter doesn't want to use it when you're done? I assume by "done" you mean gone from this world? That or poor health are the only things that will signal when I am "done" with WDW. And if your daughter doesn't want it..she can always sell it.

Worth the money? I think you will find that the vast majority here feel that DVC has been a great investment in luxury vacationing. No complaints here.

DVC cost/point is going up to $84 at BCV soon. Unless that is where you really would like to stay the most, you can also consider resales. You will pay much less per point, and be able to choose the resort you really want to stay at. Of course, if Beach Club is your favorite, then BCV would be your best bet.

How many points? Common question...very common. Figure out what time of the year you'd like to go, what kind of accommodations (1BR, studio, etc), which DVC resort you like best and how long you'd like to stay each year. Toss all that in the hopper and you'll be able to find out the right amount of points for you.

Good luck!

It sounds like DVC may indeed be right for you. With you're daughter 23, I'd assume you're in your 40's or 50's. Assuming good health currently, that should give you 20-30 years of good usage. If you're going at least every year and staying on property, you should come out ahead. They way I look at it, DVC in a studio is about a break even compared to discount prices at the moderates. Since DVC resorts are nicer (deluxe) and even the studios have more amenities, you're then ahead. DVC will never reach the low price of discount stays at Comfort Inn or some of the off property timeshares. DVC doesn't save me money but gives me far more for roughly the same investment.

DVC will not work well financially if ones stays mostly weekends and is very questionable for the other points exchange options like DCL.

We are fairly new to DVC so you might not value my input as much as some of the vets but I will say this, if you go to WDW as much as you say (3 times a yr) IMHO you are perfect candidates for DVC.

We have been 3 times since '99 with our now 8 and 9 yr olds who love the place as much as my DW and myself. After realizing that we would be making return trips through the years we decided to join DVC. We are making 1st trip home in Dec to WLV.

If your DD loves WDW that much she will probably continue to in her coming yrs with her family and we all know that prices for lodging will continue to rise. That is one thing to consider. If you look back at what youve spent in lodging and realize DVC would have been paid for already you might kick yourself. Im not keen on timeshares but DVC continues to rise in value so if you decide to sell you should stand to gain over time. Ours in less than a yr is worth more than $2000 than we paid if you look at what its selling for now.

We know some DVCers who were among the 1st to purchase in early 90s. There DD was mos. old then and they go at least twice a yr. They are both late 40s early 50s. They absolutely love OKW and never even stayed at other DVC resorts and after all these trips they still look forward to the next.

Without taking up more space, my 2 big dissapointments about DVC is I wish we would have joined sooner (we dileberated for a yr. pts. went up) and wish we had more pts.

I reiterate, YOU ARE PERFECT CANDIDATES FOR DVC!

Yup..I kind of figured most would be very positive...and my one regret is we did not do it 2 years ago when we were ready to sign...unfortunately health concern at that time prevented it but torn about it now.....thanks for imput....don't hesitate to write again if something else comes up!

Of course, no one knows what the future holds. But, if you enjoy vacationing at WDW and foresee doing so in the future, DVC is well worth investigating. It will provide wondeful vacations for you and your wife and has the potential of being the future family vacation for your daughter if she should have a family of her own. What's better than Grandma & Grandpa and the kids at WDW? Even if that doesn't happen, she may very much enjoy getting to together with Mom and Dad for Disney vacations. It can really become your Florida vacation home rather than just staying at a Disney hotel.
