Hello everyone, it has been a long time since I have visited these boards, and probably longer since I have posted, but when I am finished with my Disney vacation, this site makes me sad because I miss it LOL.

Anyway, to the problem at hand. We have been to the Fort a few times with my Dad in his camper. This time, the plan is for me to pull our trailer for Massachusetts to Ft. Wilderness.

The crew will consist of myself, my wife, my daughter (13), son (24) and his girlfriend. Some may be driving, some may be flying. Our plans are to go down for the week of Thanksgiving, flying (or having my son drive) the kids home on Saturday or Sunday, and my wife and I staying the rest of that week.

When I was finally able to make reservations, the week of Thanksgiving is booked, but I was able to get the Friday after to when I want to leave. So the big question, do I wait and hope for cancellations, do I try and find another campground somewhere in the area for the first part of the trip, pack everthing up and move it in the middle of the trip, do I spend the whole time at another campground. :confused3

Timing on this is touchy as I am trying to keep my daughter out of school for as little time as possible, and it works with my sons schedule (for now), my wifes it is iffy, but we really don't want to go for any school vacations, and I don't think I can afford to go earlier to get us there during summer vacation.

So, I am just looking for a "what would you do" kind of thing? Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings :-)

I would make other reservations, just in case. But, keep calling and checking online at The Fort. Packages are due to be paid in full 45 days from trip, there will be cancellations then and 5 days for site reservations, there will be cancellations then also.

I would make the reservations as room only and not a package. You can always make it a package later. By not having a package you can cancel 5 days out. You can also add the package the day you arrive, just call reservations prior to check in. Also, when you call have them try for a longer time period. You might have to book 3 weeks and then call back the next day and cancel what you don't want. This is quite common and I have done this many times. Hope this helps.

I agree, make the other reservations 'just in case', but I'd bet my pension that if you're persistant, you'll be able to book into the Ft for the entire trip, and probably at lot sooner than later.

A lot of people make tentative reservations, not sure if they'll be able to follow through on them or not. We've done the same. I think our last two reservations got cancelled and the one we've made for this year (beginning December 3rd) has already changed once. As often as not, one of us would have something come up at work that made a change necessary.

Enjoy the trip, and maybe we'll bump into each other. :)

Thanks all. I do have it booked as room only. And I have had luck in the past in getting openings, but for some reason, this one is giving me bad feelings LOL. Probably as this is the first time we are really kinda going down by ourselves, and I am planning it all. My grandparents used to stay at Mouse Mountain campground, which is where I am considering, unless someone has a better idea for a location.

Thanks again to those who responded :-)

And JMonroe, that is quite possible, weirder things have happened LOL.

First time I heard of Mouse Mountain. Can you fill me in ?

I agree with the others, book somewhere else & keep checking back with Disney. I have never stayed at any of the other nearby places, but friends have stayed at Thousand Trails and at Turkey lake Park. You might google them & see what you think.

Denise, I'd never heard of Mouse Mountain either, so I googled it. Looks like a manufactured home park with open spots for campers.

We stayed at Thousand Trails Christmas 2010. I liked it, $35.00 a night. The front is open and unappealing, the back section D was private. :thumbsup2

You don't have to be a member to stay there anymore.
