Okay - I know I have seen this idea on here - but was wondering if anyone has done it and if you have any helpful hints.

I am having my first baby in November and we are going to Disney World in 10 days. I was wanting to take quilting squares for the characters to sign (using an embroidery hoop - would that work?) then making my baby girl a quilt of her first trip to the World. Okay it's a lot for me too :D I thought that maybe I could use transfer paper to even use some pictures of me, dh and of course our dd (in utero) and put them on some squares too for the quilt. What do you think...is this crazy? Has anyone done it and what worked for you? I'm guessing a regular sharpie would work for their autographs. Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Amanda

I think you would be better off using a pen that used for cloth. You also have to keep in mine the pen should be in the size of a sharpie for them to hold in there hands.
I think this will be a really great member for your little girl to keep for years to come. If you can please post a picture of it after its done.

Don't forget to take it easy and drinks lots of water. You don't want yourself to go into pre-term labor.

Good luck and have a safe and happy time at Disney

Is there a particular brand that you would recommend on the pen? I want to make sure it is very permanent.

I'm sorry i'm not sure of the name, but if you have a Joanne's or a Michaels near you, maybe they could you help you. Or someone else know the name out there.

to have them sign the cloth in pen and then have someone embroider over it?

That's a thought - I never would have come up with that. I have never embroidered though - is it difficult to just follow an outline like an autograph??

it might cost a bit but some places might be able to scan the signature and do it on the computer do it....I would try maybe making copies of the signatures and seeing if you can follow it your self...just a thought...

Amanda,

I went to Rag Shop and found the following fabric pens. Deco fabric by Maryl Uchida and Zig textile by EK Success. I hope this helps if you decide to go that route.

Well I love my zig pen for scrapbooking so I may have to find that one. Thanks for looking and thinking of me - I really appreciate it. I'm starting to get excited about the baby's rooma gain. I had gotten frustrated because I couldn't find the fabric I was looking for. Now I'm thinking I will go with my original Disney theme instead of going too girly.

Thanks Again!
Amanda

I think that is a wonderful idea. My mother made each of my kids a quilt. I still have them hanging on the wall. I wish they were abuot WDW.

It would be easy to embroider over the signatures using a basic back stitch. Depending on the number of ply embroidery thread you use, you can make the stitching thinner or thicker. `Look for an embroidery stitch book in your library and you can practice before you go, to see how you like it. A basic chain stitch could also work.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to just get the autographs on plain paper or maybe cardstock just so it carries better but is pretty sturdy. Then I will scan them and print them out on a transfer to put them on the fabric I want to use. I can do the same thing with my favorite pictures from the trip. Of course my mom asked me if I was making it for Samantha or for me and why didn't I just make it for me - I told her because when Samantha is all grown up she may get it :D And after all it's her FIRST trip even if she has no idea that she took it. My husband had been hem-hawing about doing her room the way I planned around the quilt - so I may still go more girly in the room but still maker her the quilt for when she is older. Maybe I can talk him into it after she outgrows her crib and stuff.
