I have some long overdue and extremely expensive dental work ahead of me and have made the difficult decision to sell some of my Disney Artwork to help pay for it all.

So, does anyone know the best way to start, other than e-bay? I have checked and not much visual art sells on e-bay.

Are there reputable dealers or other websites that some of you may know about? If so let me know.

I have mostly sericels, but the piece that I really need the most help with is an original production cell from Fantasia.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give.

An original production cell from Fantasia???? The 1940 film not 2000???

I'm not doubting what you believe to be true, just find it incredible. Its got to be extremely rare. Most cells back then were wiped clean and reused to save costs. I only have Fantasia sericels. Let me know what you find out after your research. I'm interested.

Daber,

I will double check the COA, but I believe that it is from the 1940 film. It is a funny little image of Mickey as the Sorcer a bit scrunched up. I will try to take and up load a picture of the cell and the drawing that accompanies it.

If it is from 1940 I would suggest checking with Sotheby's or some other major auction house.

Before you get involved with Sotheby's, or any of the big auction houses, give this guy a call...

Tell him that his name was given to you by a friend, and that you would like a ballpark idea of it's value. You'll need to send a pic of the piece, but that's better than sending it in the mail to New York for evaluation!

Thanks for the advice everyone.

I have a call in to the original gallery that sold the piece to the previous owner. I purchased it at an estate sale. Hopefully I can find out more about it.

Now that I look at it I know that the background is not original. I still am interested in the cell and the sketch however.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Linda

If the background were the original it might be worth more than the cell!

Still, the cell that you have is most likely going to have serious value. I'd have to see a pic so that I could see the pose... eyes open, action, etc? Tell me more about the "SKETCH".

On cells this old, you need to look to see if the paint is lifting from the celluloid, and if so, is that paint cracking? If that is the case, are any flecks of the paint missing? There are several restorers in CA that can do an amazing restoration but it ain't CHEAP!!! Any perspective buyer already knows this...

Still, call my buddy that I suggested, he'll know who "FlyingLizard" is, and he'll give you an honest appraisal. He found a special cell for me...

but it took twenty years!!!

I have sold 9-10 sericels on Ebay over the last few years. Some were mine, some belonged to a friend. Some sold for the original price, $250-300, maybe a little higher. Some sericels are more desired more popular. For example, I sold a "Mickey Thru the Years", and "Donald Thru the Years". These are not often seen on Ebay, and sold well (sell stuff like this in late October-mid December) If you watch Ebay for awhile, you will see the same serciels up week after week, many of these are not real sericels (they are a cheaper version, from where I do not know). The ones I sold were originally from the Disneystore Gallery, or the Disney park galleries. Some sold for as low as $125. I wanted to sell them, so I took what I could get.

PS if you list on Ebay, watch your keywords, so people can find them easily

Linda,
Sorry to hear about the dental work, and the expense. I hope it all works out for you.

If you get a chance, shoot me an email and let me know what you have that you are going to sell. I have a considerable amount of animation art, and may be interested in getting with you on some of your pieces.

That's awesome on the Fantasia piece. I hope you are able to get a good appraisal value on it.

Just to keep you all updated......

My digital camera seems to have died, so posting pictures right now is a bit difficult. Lisa is going to borrow her camera from work.

Sue Ellen....I will send you an e-mail. Chances are you probably have most of what I have but we'll see.

I will post a pic of the Fantasia piece as soon as I can.
