Looking for a tablet or similar for a 5 and 3 year old. They like playing with my 1st gen. Kindle Fire and they like playing on my smartphone. They only have free apps on both though. I would love to have something specifically for them so that I won't have to worry about them buying or erasing anything. They also both love taking selfies so a rear facing camera would be a huge bonus. Suggestions? And where to get them the cheapest in time for Christmas morning?

What's your budget? And is that for one tablet or two?

The Leappad Ultra has front and back cameras. You should be able to pick it up at any Walmart, Kmart, Target, TRU, etc. The Leappad 2 is an older version but is less expensive. Both are designed specifically to withstand the abuse that a toddler can dish out. I wouldn't put the same faith in a tablet designed for use by an adult.

Maybe your stepdaughter could help you pick one out. Kids know so much about these things and she could probably help you find something that would work well for smaller children.

I think you'll have trouble finding good ones under 100....you said that was your budget for the kids this year, right?
If you can find them under 100, I'd just forego the magazine subscription and chocolate bar for your stepdaughter and get her a tablet too.
I know you said she has one but if you can find them for under 100, she can certainly use two- some young people will watch tv on one tablet while doing homework or surfing the web on the other one.
And with an extra tablet at such a good price, she won't have to freak out if one is stolen or broken.

When buying a tablet for kids a good sturdy case needs to be factored into the cost.

I recommend a Nexus 7. I love mine.

I love mine too but I wouldn't get that for 3 and 5 year old kids.

My kids are much older and they have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.

I would recommend the Nabi 2 for young kids.

You simply cannot buy a quality tablet for under $150. The cheaper ones just suffer from lack of memory and painfully slow processors and HORRIBLE battery life (we're talking only a couple hours use per charge)
