I know this might get moved but I can't get a response anywhere else. We are also going to Universal Studios. We were planning on using the grayline service but after talking with them on the phone I think we are going to feel really rushed. We will not arrive to universal until 9:45-10:30am'ish and will be leaving at 6pm. We are also wanting to eat dinner there.

Can anyone tell me what a cab ride from Fairfield Inn (or any other similar located hotel) would cost us?

If the cab fares are too high, you may want to look into renting a car for a day. That will give you the flexibility to go to Universal and return at your leisure. I think there are a few rental car agencies among the hotels around Disneyland.

Good luck with your trip planning and enjoy your visit to Universal! :goodvibes

I know there is an Alamo and Hertz rental station right next to the Alpine Inn across the street from the convention center. That would most likely be your best option :thumbsup2

Hiring a car does sound like the way to go as when we went to Universal, we got there before opening and left well after 6pm. Sounds like renting a car would be a lot cheaper than taking a cab too. Whatever you decide, have a great day! It would be great if you could post your thoughts on the new parts of the studio tour including the new King Kong section. :goodvibes

TIA :goodvibes

I agree with others. You can probably rent a car for less than $50 for the day. Universal does charge parking of $10 I believe. I would not want to be held to a rushed schedule especially if Universal is open late on the night you will be there.

On Universals website they advertise a bus direct from Disneyland area hotels with a price that includes admission. Is this the greyline you are referring to? If so I would have thought it would arrive before opening and leave an hour after closing so people would not be rushed.

Yes it is the grayline company. Not sure what we are going to do now...we really don't want to drive in CA. Wish there was another bus service that stayed later.

Unfortunately I do not think there is, we bite the bullet and drive.

I would check the park hours for which ever day you are planning on going to the park before deciding not to use the greyline bus system. When I went in March I used that same bus system and the park was closing at 6 which is when we left.

You could take the MTA Red Line subway, which has a stop near Universal Studios, to downtown, then the MTA #460 bus to DLR. Here's a Google Maps view of that route. Quite a long trip, but it's an alternative. Also you could take the Red Line to Union Station and take Amtrak to Anaheim Station and then a cab from there, but the costs are starting to add up.

The thing is, Universal at Hollywood is tiny. There are only two thrill rides, a motion simulator, two 3-D shows and the Backlot tour.

We did everything at the park by three, arriving at 10:30.

Show up, do the Backlot tour, do the Simpsons, and then down the never ending escalators to Jurassic Park and The Mummy.

Enjoy lunch and the neat exhibit near the currently constructed Transformers ride. (They have Scott Pilgrim's bass. That, my friends, is awesome.)

Head back up, and do anything else.

Trust me, you'll have plenty of time. It's a fairly small park, and is easily done in just a few hours.

Exactly. The park closed about 30 minutes before our bus even was scheduled to arrive. Universal doesn't stay open that late. At least when I went.

Agreed... It is tiny... I was an universal AP holder last year... Many times we would arrive at park opening and do the good stuff and leave by 3, there really isn't that much to do...

I would rent a car, that way if you got done early you can go drive around Hollywood. There is an Alamo Car Rental location at Downtown Disney.

There are SEVERAL in the area... Enterprise, Blue Oval, etc... Go with the best price.

I do agree that the whole Bus thing does make one feel rushed.
