My nephew hit his front tooth and knocked it loose but not out. Will it go back??? Anything we should do or not do?

If its loose but still in the socket, not bleeding, etc. I would wait till tomorrow and call the dentist. My son did this when he was three. The tooth started to die and needed to be pulled, as it was becoming infected and could harm the other teeth. If you are really concerend, just call the dentist now. There has to be one on call, and they can tell you if it can wait or not.

This recently happened with my 3-year old DD. In her case, she fractured the bone underneath her gums (the fracture healed and she kept her teeth).

I would start a soft diet (mashed potatoes, pudding, etc) and contact a dentist. We called ours and they wanted to see her right away (they took x-rays to confirm the fracture and applied a little brace to stabilize her teeth for the healing process). My DD was on a purely soft diet for a week.

Oh, man! I was hoping someone would say it's not really that big of a deal. We are in another state for a dr's appt for his brother and really don't have any dentist contacts here.

and he knocked it so it was sticking back in his mouth. We had to go to the dentist and have it pulled out. It has just grown in and he looks so different.. we have had him for so long with the hole in the front of his mouth.

When my DD was about 4, she fell flat on her face during dance class and knocked one of the front top babyteeth out of place (kind of sideways and at a funny angle). I rushed her to the regular dentist who suggested pulling it. I decided to get another opinion and took her to the pediatric dentist instead. The pediatric dentist said, lets not do anything, and wait and see what happens.... so by the time we went back for her next regular appointment, it had tightened back up and was healthy, though crooked.
The pediatric dentist said that it could have gone either way, we got lucky.

My then 6 month old knocked out a brand new tooth. We went to the kid's ER (it was nighttime and that young we didn't have a dentist for him!) and they said it was no big deal.

When two future teeth grew in yellow then brown then just got worse from there, we found pediatric dentists (long long search to find an intelligent one), and they said that we should have brought him in, that with tooth accidents you should always bring them in.

So I say, call a ped dentist (call your dental insurance company if you have such a thing to find one in the area) and bring him in.

My youngest son did this back in October at daycare. Hit a table. They told me to watch it for a day or two and if it was still loose they would x-ray it. Well it was still loose so they x-rayed it and the root was still intact. So we just waited until it tightened up again. They checked it again about a month later and it is fine.

One of my sons did this when he was almost 2. Knocked it really loose & chipped off a corner. We called the dentist & he said to give it a day or two to see if it firmed up, if not we should come in. Luckily for us it did firm back up. He's 4 now & endearingly cute with that chipped tooth!
