need prices for Kalahari Sandusky

I absolutely love this board, and have found so much great info here.

We have booked a one night stay in a 2 room suite for next month at the Kalahari in Sandusky Ohio. We have never stayed here before. Does anyone know how much the breakfast buffet is for adults and children? Also I would like prices for the mini golf and the childrens treehouse.

I am so looking forward to going. It is supposedly authentic African, which so much reminds me of Animal Kingdom lodge and Animal Kingdom. Actually our bedroom and our family room is decorated African/Safari style, and our livingroom in rustic lodge. We have stayed at Great Wolf lodge, loved it, but a bit too young for our older boys.

They have a great website with all of the information. Their phone number is listed for each resort, so you may want to call directly for up to the minute prices. You might want to do a google search for specials at Kalahari. You might save some money. Have fun, we have been there before and we really enjoyed it! It really felt like a vacation with kid activities and many things to do.

I use to work for Kalahari's reservation dept and the best advice I can tell you is to CALL with any questions, they are always more than happy to help where they can...which 2 room suite did you book if you don't mind me asking? I def. have my favorite rooms and would be happy to share some tips or advice if you'd like some..I haven't worked there in about 2 years so I don't know current prices but access to the treehouse SHOULD still be included..just give them a call at the number listed on the website or feel free to PM me, i still have contacts in the reservations dept..and YES everything is AUTHENTIC, the owner actually send a team of ppl to Africa several times a year to bring items back..

I just want to Clarify about this $9.95 resort fee, it was installed after i had stopped working there but it is calculated into the rate provided by the agent or online..once you add in the tax you will see the resort fee also listed on your bill but YES it will include many daily family activities..like i said before just give them a call

Let me get on my soapbox for a moment....

It is NOT FREE or COMPLIMENTARY when you pay a $9.95 daily fee for it. It is part of the cost of the room. I can't just pay the $9.95 resort fee and get access to the waterpark, or use of the fitness center.

If the hotel complex needs another $9.95 per night to pay the bills, then charge it in the rate.

Just wanted to add that we will be there next month too...you will LOVE it!! Our favorite place after WDW of course . I'm not too sure on breakfast prices since last time we went and this time we did a package deal that includes breakfast. You will have a BLAST!!

We are paying $222.22 for the 2 room suite, which has a king room & bathroom on one end, then there are 2 queen beds, a sofabed, a fireplace, microwave & fridge and an additional bathroom. It also includes 2 adult breakfast buffets, 22% off in the gift shop & spa services, which I will not be using. So for 6 of us to go I felt the price was great, wish it were for 2 nights, but we get to try it out and see how it works for our family. Our youngest is 3 and will probably want to spend some time in the treehouse to play. I have checked the website but didn't see anything about pricing for the mini golf or treehouse. I just thought I would ask my dis friends if they knew. I will be calling for up to date info though.

Yes, I would love any tips/advice you have for me I am so excited to visit, and you telling me that yes, everything is authentic makes me all the more excited. Its not WDW, but its alot closer and less expensive, lol. So this could be a great quick getaway for us. Its only a little over 2 hour drive.

There are ALOT of restaurants on Rt 250, north of Kalahari. I suggest eating at one of them to save $$. Our last trip to Kalahari, we found the food to be expensive and not very good. There is a fridge in the room so we brought milk and cereal.

The mini-golf is really small. My kids found it kind of boring. The treehouse, which is free, my kids loved. They could have spent all day there. There wasn't much seating near that area though. We ended up on the floor.

First of all let me say that to my kids Kalahari IS WDW...my son has never been to WDW but he LOVES LOVES LOVES Kalahari and he's been there about 3-4 times and he's only 2.5 years old lol my daughter(age 8) is always bugging me to take her there as well, she is so used to us going,and her FAVORITE thing to do once we get in the waterpark is to go ride the flow rider. My daughter is not the type of kid to try new things but once we got her on there kicking and screaming she couldn't wait to go back on lol

The 2 room family was actually the first suite that I stayed in, a good choice especially if it's your first time going..How old are your other children?( i apologize if i'm assuming it's 2adults and 4children) My experience is only with the Dells resort but both of them are similar.

I've never ate the buffet at Great Karoo, I've heard from a lot of ppl that it's really not worth it, especially for the kids..if you have big eaters that's a whole another story..I always thought they did the buffets only on the weekends but that may have changed since I was working there and maybe they r doing it for this promo..which leads me to my next tip

You can bring whatever food and/or drink you want into your room, just please don't bring it into the waterpark...when we go i always buy my kids little microwave box meals for lunch and the little bowls with cereal in them for breakfast..they also have Java Manjaro with coffee, yummy pastries, and donuts..plus I know there is fast food not far down the road for a quick bite to eat..

the treehouse is free but is limited to kids under 52in..so if you have a tall child be warn

the mini golf shouldn't cost more than like $7 i want to say for 9 holes, probably less..but that's per person

My brain isn't thinking to well right now but i'll post back if i think of anything else..dinner time! hope this helps some..any other questions please feel free to ask!

and yes it's VERY addicting especially being so close to home..no airfare to worry about..but sometimes it can get as expensive as WDW, just gotta know the right times to go, which times to avoid, which rooms to pick, places to eat at, etc etc

so I was going to suggest maybe if you and your husband wanted to do dinner you could let the older ones take the kids into the arcade or the tree area, hoping i dont get flamed for suggesting that lol...it's all very safe.you would be amazed to know the number of cameras watching that place..

oh i forgot to add that my daughter's favorite activity to do is the FREE cookie decorating..they do it everyday..when you check in, and even a few days before your trip you can view online, but you will get a list of activities going on at the resort..sometimes it's story time, other times it's movie night, or tee shirt decorating, or book mark coloring...they offer a wide variety of things...if it is something that's going to cost you extra it will state that otherwise its' free

also you can arrive starting at noon on the day of checkin. if you are able to arrive that early go for it and take a leisurely walk around the resort and explore what it has to offer..especially with older kids let them know where the waterpark is, where the arcade is, etc etc...your room might be ready before 4pm and if so they will let you in sooner..you can use the amenities on the day of check out as well, use to be until 3pm, but that could have changed..

just a forewarning based on Facebook reviews-kids HAVE to wear life jackets in the waterpark, I'm sure the older 2 won't have to but i'm not sure about the 10 year old..that's another tip-if you have facebook then friend then cuz they do send out facebook offers every now and again

I would think no one would flame you for suggesting our older kids watch the younger. They are extremely capable and that is a great idea. For this very short trip we won't, but if we return, which I'm thinking we will with all of these great reviews, it would be for a longer stay and we will definitely do that

I did call to get prices, for anyone who is interested the breakfast buffet if $11 for adults and $7 for children.
Not sure how good it is, but we do get 2 adults included in our rate, so we will have 2 children and our older ones will be adult prices, so $37 for a breakfast buffet seems pretty good to us. I will let you know what we think of it.

I agree with this. We have been to Kalahari at Sandusky and Wisonsin Dells. The Sandusky resort is nicer, b/c it is newer. HOWEVER, the food in WD was much, much better (we went to WD first, so we shocked at how awful the food was at sandusky). We were NOT happy with the food and how expensive it was at the Sandusky resort. Luckily, we did save some $ by having bkfst in the room and lunch too (I brought frozen dinners). However, the food inside the resort is just disappointing for what you spend. And yes, the mini-golf is very small, but they have a HUGE arcade area that is a kid magnet. The rooms, esp the higher end ones are just gorgeous. My kids love kalahari, but it is expensive and annoying that the food is so disappointing for what they charge.

I did not realize it was midwinter break..i always forget Sandusky gets hit in Feb already with that..we don't generally have break until March..so I'm sure it will be somewhat busier..anytime kids are out of school it gets busy lol..I hope you guys have a wonderful time! we might try to go to the Dells one in Feb as well, as long as it means the kids get off my back lol...it's so nice that everything is all under one roof..oh one other tip-book the reservation under whoever's name you will use the most, that way when you call back to rebook they will have you "on file" and be able to pull up some of your info from your previous stay..Also if you have any special requests-such as you know you will need more blankets or pillows call reservations and ask them to make a note of it for you, that way housekeeping can try their best to have it arranged ahead of time..oh and lastly-this is especially for your 3 year old, ask at the gift shop for a FREE cd, they should have them....you will hear the songs over and over while there and mostly like the kids will be singing them all the way home lol...the composer for the song just created a new one, he told me it's being played at the resort but I haven't been there since Oct..Otherwise as a way to prep the kids search youtube and type is I wanna go to the Kalahari...they will LOVE it..again have a wonderful stay, i'm sure you'll be wanting to go back lots!

We have been to GWL both Sandusky and Cincinnatti (Mason?) and enjoyed both (especially the Magic Quest) but looking for something new.

I thought the food was pretty good at GWL (not like WDW but still good) and it is so convenient to never leave the place.

But DS and I got cold in the indoor water park so never lasted more than 2-3 hours in there. I think they say its 84 degrees but not sure it really is. Is Kalahari any warmer? I realize they are trying to heat a glass barn in mid-winter - haha. The Cincinn GWL is much closer for us too - 2 vs 5+ hours from Indianapolis

We will be going next month too! DH has a conference there so we get rooms almost half off! It's pres day weekend so I know it will be packed, but I'm sure we will have fun. We are getting a suite so I plan to pack breakfast and lunch fixings and the one night the conference is hosting a dinner, so we shouldn't have to spend too much on food. I'm thinking of letting DD bring a friend since it includes passes for 4, but since we will be gone 2 nights I don't know if her friends parents want their kid gone that long. Guess we'll find out!

We live here Not at Kalahari but about a stones throw away...from my parents back porch you can see the lights glowing off of the place. We have gone to swim there once and we go in to their candy counter every once in a while.

I do know that their food at the restaurant there is GROSS! A friend of mine had tickets for a free dinner their before they opened BLAH!

Also At the candy counter THE CHOCOLATE COVERED BANANAS ARE TO DIE FOR!!!!! also they have baboon bites (which are frozen cookie dough balls covered in chococolate) SOOOOOOOOOOOO good, but you can only eat 2 before going into a sugar coma LOL

You can always call and ask to speak to the waterpark and they should be able to give you an idea of how warm it is in there...I personally always think it's humid in the waterpark but I'm talking about the Kalahari in the Dells and i KNOW you are wanting info on the Sandusky one..spring break at Kalahari does get busy so if you were interested in booking I'd recommend doing so soon..they are a flex rate resort meaning their rates can change and very often do..if you've never been there give them a try, they ARE america's largest indoor waterpark..I do disagree about the food though but again I have never been to the Sandusky one but the Kalahari in the Dells has lots of great food..I've rarely had anything that tasted bad..ppl do have to remember it's not WDW, this is Kalahari so it's going to be different..if you need any help as I've stated before just feel free to PM me or ask here
