Need OKW Point Rental Information

Hello!

This is my first post here, so please be patient with me if I seem like I don't know what I am doing. 'Cause I don't. LOL

My family (3 adults) is thinking about taking a trip to Walt Disney World and stay in a 2 Bedroom Villa at the Old Key West Resort (our favorite), and we heard that renting points from DVC members can be a good way to save some money. I figured the easiest way to learn about this would be to post here and see what happened.

Here are our preferred dates, if we go:

Arriving on Sunday, September 19, 2004
(family member's birthday is Sept. 22!)
Departing on Sunday, September 26, 2004

Using the Points Calculator on this website, this is what I came up with:

So it looks like if we end up going, we are seeing to rent 218 points from someone whose home resort is Old Key West so we can rent a 2 Bedroom Villa from Sept. 19 - Sept. 26.

It looks like points go anywhere from $8 - $10 per point. Is that pretty accurate?

You did a pretty good job for your first post!

A couple of comments:

1. You don't need to rent from an OKW owner, since Sep 2004 is within the 7-month booking window, all DVC members can book into OKW. YOu only need to get a resort owner if your shooting for something between 7 and 11 months in advance.

2. You may wish to consider the 1-BR unit. It will be about half as much and with the rollaway it may work for 3 adults.

3. You noted the cost of the weekend stay...lots of points! You may be better booking those two nights directly with Disney (on Cash) and limiting your points reservation to Sunday - Thursday nights.

4. Do not expect to pay less than $10 / point. You MAY get a bargain at less than that, particularly because you want OKW. However, the AVERAGE price is $10--there are some higher and some that go lower. Some people refuse to rent for less than 11 (I'm one of them).
