I'd recommend first deciding if you want percale or sateen cotton sheets, as you said cotton sheets.
Percale is typically thick, crisp and cool. Tends to wrinkle. Has a lower threadcount.
Sateen is typically thinner, silkier, less prone to wrinkle and warmer. Tend to has a higher thread count than Percale.
Brands to check out: Boll and Branch, The Company Store, Lands End, Kirkland from Costco. FYI Kirkland recently re-did their Kirkland brand sheets in the past year and the reviews have been mixed. So people talking about how they love their Kirkland sateen sheets may be talking about ones they bought that are no longer available.
