We're looking to buy a new desktop. We need a DVD burner and windows. It will not be used for gaming. Would love to buy an iMac, but that is not in the budget. Looking to spend $400-600. Any advice?

We've had our HP since 2007. It's starting to get slow so I will be looking into a new one soon.

DS bought a laptop/tablet hybrid from Toshiba for $523. It came with Windows and anti-virus along with the DVD...He's in college. He was recommending an All-in-one from HP for me, but now that I am using the Chromebook, I am shying away. Unfortunately, no Windows on the Chromebook (all Google docs). I just don't use all the abilities available on the computer.

Wish I could give more help.:surfweb:

Have you thought about going laptop.

We have three laptops and I have been wondering why we keep buying a desktop when the printer is wireless, too.

Hp is desktop we have and it's getting old 5 yrs.

Laptops are acers basically threw aways, less then 300 each.

I agree with the above poster; why a desktop rather than a laptop? A laptop is much more versatile. Yes, you may have to buy a separate DVD player/burner, but they are only about $35.00.

I highly recommend getting a touchscreen to take advantage of all of the features of Windows 8.1.

OP here, thanks for your suggestions. Looking into tablet and laptop now. We just always used a desktop, never considered replacing it with something else. Glad I asked here, thank you!
