We're getting down to the wire. We move to Florida in a little more than a month!

I am trying to make a list of the things we will need to have in our cars and for our first 5 days in Fl. We will be shipping our stuff via a freight company, so we will be without our posessions for several days upon arriving in Fl. We will also have our cats in our cars with us.

What do we need to pack in the cars with us? I don't want to forget anything!

Thanks for you help!

Holly

Cat supplies: food, dishes, litter and boxes.
Bathroom supplies: TP, towels, soap, shampoo, grooming supplies.
Kitchen: paper plates and towels, plastic silverware, cups.
When I moved, I tried to think of it as "camping."
There is more, but that is what I can think of right now. :D

The last time we moved the place was not cleaned to my liking. So I'd take your toilet cleaner, Clorox wipes, and a broom. :D
Or else find the nearest Target/WalMart as soon as you get there!

Oh my gosh! How could I forget?

I just added towels and clorox wipes to my list!

Thanks so much! Anything else?

Will the new place be decorated? If not, you may need curtains/shades depending on where your windows are situated.
Upon arriving at our new house after passing papers we realized we had to get a shade up in the bathroom fast, LOL!

I would bring a first aid kit, too, just in case.

We moved to Ohio 5 yrs ago into an empty condo while we waited for our household goods. The essentials would be a frying pan and pot and maybe a ladle and spatula. We also packed bedding and an air mattress.

Dont waste too much space on cleaning supplies, etc.....many of those items you can just run out and by at Target or Walmart as noted above and plus, many of them wont fair well in the hot car if you stop along the way.....

Definitely bring a supply of water for you and the pets...and copies of their vet records, including rabies certificates. I think you need that in addition to their rabies tag to cross some state lines, if they were to ask for it. Also a supply of any of your prescription meds as well as paper scripts in case you need to refill before you find a new doc.

Other tips, most movers wont move lightbulbs, matches, candles. If you plan to travel with candles, keep in a cooler. Plan to buy lightbulbs for your lamps on your first Target visit. I would also never entrust movers with precious items such as family heirlooms, photographs and albums and other items that absolutely can not be replaced. Plus your financial documents. YOu dont want those to get into wrong hands.

When we moved to OH, I used the space that otherwise could have been cleaning supplies to be:

1. leftover candles
2. photographs
3. financial documents
4. DH's GGrandmothers china.

Can't buy those things at Target!

Thanks! I knew I could count on my DIS friends!

That's good advice about the cleaning chemicals and such. I think I'll wait to buy those things and other things like window coverings at Walmart or Target when we get down there. It's going to be cramped quarters in the cars with the cats and such.

I'll have to remember to use all my candles before we go! How fun!

A first aid kit is a must. Thank you. Especially as I'm accident-prone!

Thanks for all the tips. More are appreciated!
