Hi all,

We have to change our DVC travel plans for early Oct. and are finding that every single DVC resort is sold out for our dates. We are considering transferring our points to stay at the FW Cabins. This sounds really unique and interesting to us and we love the idea that there is a separate bedroom. However, we don't quite understand how this all works.

What I really want to know is if we have a car at a cabin, can we drive our car to the resort's various amenities, i.e. Trail's End, dinner show, pool(s), marina, shops, night-time movie or are you limited to a golf cart, bike, bus or walking? After a stay recently at OKW where the internal bus system can drive you crazy, we are not up for a lot of bus travels. We will have a car and would like to just drive to the places that are too far to walk.

If that is not an option, what are the cabins nearby (in general)? A pool? The main pool (which brings another question - are both pools about the same or is one the "main pool" and the other a remote pool?)? The buffet? The night-time movie?

If these are not close by and you cannot use a car to get to most places, what does a golf cart typically cost? Can you rent it for your whole stay? Are outside golf cart companies an option? Generally how much does that cost?

Sorry for so many questions! We are not at all Disney newbies, but definitely newbies when it comes to FW!!!!

TIA!!!

The only place to park a car is by the Meadow Trading Post. There are about 6 spots - 15 minute parking only. There is a quiet pool by the cabins and the main pool in the middle of The Fort. You can bring bikes if feasible.

It's $60ish a night to rent from WDW, $35.00 from Kenny.

Thank you! Should I expect higher rates from Kenny if my stay is less than a week, like 4 or 5 nights?

Can you park golf carts pretty much anywhere on property with no 15 minute limits?

Here is the FW faq thread that may give you some info.

Here is a map of FW, which will show you where the pools are, trading post, comfort stations, etc

You can have a car parked at your cabin, which will offer you limited use around the fort. There will be places that you want to go at FW (and beyond) that are too far to walk to that you can't bring your car (the marina to catch a boat to MK for example). A golf cart is a great option as you can drive it to many places that have parking spaces with chargers (to the marina for example). Alternatively, you can bring bikes, rent them at FW or just leave everything up to the bus system. The internal bus system around the fort (From what I hear) is a 5-15 minute wait and this internal bus will bring you to a Fort bus stop where you will transfer to an external bus to go to the parks.

You can rent a golf cart from Disney, but you get them much cheaper from Kenny (As 2goofycampers mentioned above) or another vendor whose name escapes me at the moment. You can contact them by phone to reserve ahead of time and when your vacation arrives, they will deliver it to you or they will call you to come meet them at a predetermined time at the Outpost (front gate parking lot). I think I am paying about $240 for 7 days from Kenny.

Thats all I got
Good luck
Joe

I don't know so just call them to find out.

To answer your other question, there are several spots around the fort that you can park your cart for longer periods of time (for hours). I have read that people comfortably park their carts near the marina, plug them in and go to MK. I never really got the impression that it is bad etiquette to park your cart anywhere at the fort (in a designated spot, of course) for any amount of time. I'm sure that someone will correct me if I am wrong on that, though.

Hey dudelydude! We are in Green Oaks - not far from Great America - neighbors!

Thanks for all your helpful info. I was able to sort through it all and follow the wonderful links and get booked for a cabin in Oct! I also have a good quote from Kenny and will book probably tomorrow.

I appreciate all the advice and info!!!

We live in the furthest possible "Chicago suburbs" from each other...LOL. Glad you got your cabin and buggy figured out. October is an AWESOME time to be at WDW if you've never been during that time.

I don't really have much to add other than we just got back from cabins and we used the internal busses mostly since we didn't rent a golf cart (we were in the 2800 loop which I thought was nice because you could easily walk to the Outpost Depot).

Unfortunately the "Swimming 'ole" pool was down while we were there or else it would have been really close too (I think it was the stop right after they picked us up most of the time). I think it was open again this week.

I'm in IL too though...pretty much in the middle of you guys.
