Need meal ideas....

The in room mini fridge works fine for keeping items at the needed temps

Many bring in food and lots of it
They need something larger than the mini fridges in the rooms

So neat thing is to buy the styrofoam ice chest

If you are buying cases of soda and water and lunch meat, prepared foods, yogurts, gallons of milk, etc for 4-5 peeps to cover a 4-5 day stay, ice chest will be large enough to hold the items

Look at the hotel Stickies

There are some pics of the mini fridge with its door open
One pic shows a loaded up fridge and it seemed like all fit fine

Milk container can fit in the door a lot and youhurt on the shelves would be fine and leave you with room to store more in it

I just googled Publix stores near UO and looks like one about a 5-7 minute drive away from UO

I use car service and do a stop at Publix, but don't remember the address of that close one to the onsite hotels.

Yes, we use the one on Sand Lake Road which is around the 5-7 minutes drive you described. There is another near Bubbalous BBQ and one way down on Universal Boulevard........

With the talk of making ice chests I am concerned now that the fridges in the onsite rooms not up to the job of keeping food fresh and cold.

Can someone please confirm either way as we are doing a split stay between CBR and RPR and hope to keep groceries for breakfasts and snacks in the in room fridges

Thanks

We only use the fridge for water, juice and wine and they are always chilled enough for us.....we like drinks cold.

I was there for four nights last year and loaded the fridge with fruit, salad stuff and dairy. The fridge kept everything just fine.

We always take breakfast food and snacks to help us stretch our food budget. Staying at RPR (and express pass) is worth it!

You've got some great suggestions above, but I'll throw in some of mine.

Depending on your budget, don’t rule out eating in the park entirely. Our eating philosophy in the park is that we don’t want to become so full that we can’t hop on a coaster soon after, so we eat smallish anyway, by sharing meals and eating less more often. If we are hungry after we eat, we pull out a snack.

Are you going to be able to eat before, but the day of check in, when you're back at the hotel and settling into your room in the evening, try the Shipwreck Nachos at Bula's pool bar. $10 for no meat (but does have black beans), $14 for chicken. It feeds our family of 4.

Table Service restaurants can be some of the best places to find cheap eats! Refills on drinks or a cup of ice water is better than the quick service prices. Mythos at IoA has an amazing Tuscan Tomato Soup for $4.99 for a bowl and they serve great bread. We like to eat here for lunch. Sometimes we will add in an appetizer like the Spanakopita Dip to share. Dessert shots for $1.75.

The Dining Plan Card can be stretched at quick service places to be a good deal too. It’s $21.99 and gives you a meal with a drink, a snack and another beverage. We eat somewhere like Thunder Falls at IoA and share a chicken and rib platter and drink ($15.99 + $3.29 = $19.28 plus tax), then we have a drink credit and a snack credit left (we use the snack credit on a butterbeer to share ($6.99). So for $21.99 we have a meal for 2 and a treat.

The Refillable Popcorn bucket is $6.49 for the first time and your refills are only $1.59.

Assuming your room has a microwave……..Tortilla chips with refried or black beans, cheese, canned olives, lots of shredded cheddar or Mexican blend cheese and salsa in the microwave for about 25-45 seconds makes great nachos! Add sour crème at the end.

We often order kids meals at Universal at he quick service places. They are usually enough to fill us up.

On our last trip, I ordered only fries at Three Broomsticks for a quick snack and it was only $3.50.

We often pack out lunches so they are totally [or mostly ] disposable and then eat quick service dinner in the park.

Good luck …..have fun!!!
