So, I told DH if the Bears made it to the Superbowl, we could get a new TV. Now I'm in a scramble before the big game!!!

We currently have a Sony 52 inch rear projection that we got 5 years ago. We basically bought a lemon. Have had nothing but problems with the tube sine about a year after our purchase. So, I don't think we'd buy Sony again. Anyone have any input on the other brands? I was also thinking about the Vizio from Costco, but haven't heard much about it.

Any help would be great!!!

Are you looking at LCD or LCD projection?

Either way, try and compare the sets at Costco to similar TV's and TV's with other technologies.

IMO LCD's don't look as nice as Plasmas and DLP's. They have a very pixelated look and it only gets worse as the TV gets bigger.

We just bought a 46" Samsung LCD last weekend. We were originally looking at the Sony Bravia 46" LCD. My brother has that one. There was a $900 price difference though and since we are also remodeling our bathroom figured we should go with the cheaper one.

Yesterday, Dh went to my brother's and watched the 1st game on his Sony then came home and watched the 2nd game on ours. He said ours looks just as good.

We chose LCD over Plasma because of the glass screen. The plasma has a high gloss screen and we have lots of natural light in our family room that results in lots of glare, the LCD screen is so much better for that it's not glossy.

Also, I heard that Sony no longer is making plasma for some reason, must be a good reason for them to stop making them.

The sound is not as good as our old tv (we had a Sony Wega Trinitron 36" 5,000 pound monster) but DH has it hooked up to our Bose surround sound system so it doesn't really matter. My brother had to hook his Sony up to surround sound as well.

Hope this helps.

I bought and reccomend the Sharp Aquos line for LCD. Since LCD's get very expensive when you go up to larger screens, we also bought a Pioneer Plasma for our family room. I like both screens. As a non techie, I can't tell that much difference. Just watch the size if you are buying a wide screen. I had to jump up in size (the reason for the plasma purchase) in order to get a screen that felt as large as our old big tube TV. The square vs rectangular issue also totally messed up the use of our built in bookcase TV space.
