Does anyone know the dates? I will be in orlando between April 20 -April 30. I really want to attend Mardi Gras there.

There is a good chance that Mardi Gras will be going on at that time. They may have to re-use older floats, though...

I never thought of the New Orleans connection! I wonder if the floats are from New Orleans, or if they are made in Florida.

Both. Some are shipped in from New Orleans, others are kept in FL for re-use or remodeling.

Mardi Gras is Feb 28th 2006. At least it happens later in the month.

The marketing department always waits until the last minute before giving out the info, even though many ask about it months in advance.
And the concert schedule usually changes as the event goes on.

So yeah, I think there's a good chance the event will be going in April for the spring break crowd.

Do you think they will start the Mardi Gras events early in the month? We will be at Universal during President's Weekend. It would be fun to get in the spirit and celebrate all things Nawlins, especially dinner at Emeril's. We are staying at Disney POR-French Quarter resort. Haven't decided which Universal resort. Maybe RPR club again since my kids are young (age 2 & 6).

Please dont flame me but I couldnt help wonder if Mardi Gras will be the same in 2006, since Hurricane Katrina in NOLA, after all isnt that what NOLA is most famous for ? Maybe they will even make it a bigger party out of remebrance for the NOLA disaster, or maybe it wont be as popular. Just my random thoughts...What does everyone think ?

I have to agree. Any Mardi Gras celebration this year will be wierd.

Seeing as how the whole Mardi Gras thing is NOLA based, I can't imagine that it could be pulled off tastefully at all.

For HHN 2001, Universal toned down several of the houses and shows due to 9/11.

Mardi Gras is such a huge draw that Universal can't afford to not have it. How it will be done is unknown. It's too far in the future for any of us to tell. Maybe the minds in the creative department are already working on it. :confused3

February is a long way off (about 6 months until the event).

By then it will be looked upon as a rebuilding thing, a way to bring the economy back.

USF's Mardi Gras is based on the traditional festivites in NO, yes, but it is not directly related in any way. If NO can't celebrate it, it doesn't mean we can't. I don't see how there would be anything distasteful about it. Mardi Gras festivities take place in many places now as well, not just NO and USF.

It has to be a possitive thing. Maybe they will have donation spots to help the people of NOLA. Since we can't celebrate in NOLA this year, that's all the more reason to keep Mardi Gras alive by celebrating at Universal.

I know the opening of Twister was delayed after the deadly twisters that occurced just prior to the attractions opening....
