How scary is Fantasmic? Is it mainly the dragon that is scary?
My DS14 really wants to see it , but I have a timid DD7. I really would like to know what to expect before I decide. If we decide to go how early do you have to go to get a seat at the 9pm show. Any info would be helpful.

I took DS8 and DS7 when we went and they loved it. It was a little frightening in some parts (like a lot of Disney attractions, which I always find a little strange, but I digress...) but it was DS7's favourite thing of the whole trip. The cool parts far outweigh the scary parts. Also, if your DD likes the princesses they come out a couple times, which I didn't realize would happen, and in retrospect I wish my DD5 would've been with us, but I was worried she would be too scared. We went in Sept. when there were no line-ups so I probably can't help you much with what time to arrive. Have Fun!!

You say your 7 year old is timid. Just my opinion, but this is too scary for a timid child. My 12 year old doesn't like loud noises, and it was almost too much for him (had his ears covered most of the time).

There's a fair amount of battling with Malevolent before she turns into the dragon. And the water is set on fire for one of the scenes. It's very cool, but very intense.

Only you know your child, but I know I walked out of there thinking that it was probably age 6 and up.

I guess everyone's kids are different.
Our very timid DD5 buried her head in my lap on Splash and bravely made it through Pirates holding onto me very tightly. She enjoyed Fantasmic and wasn't scared by it at all. I've never really thought of it as scary.

It is a judgement call. Just how timit is she. I would look back on some of the other attractions to decide if it would bother her. There is one intense scene where they set the water on fire and it can become loud at times. As for what time to get in line it depends what time of the year you are going you did not say. I went in DEC. and walk right in 15 min. before and got a seat but there is only me so that made it easier but I seen lots of seating open.

We will be going in August. She says she wants to go see it.
I'll let DH go with DS if she backs out. I think she would be fine, but I won't push her into it if she doesn't want to go. I have not seen Fantasmic and wasn't sure what to expect. How early for seats in August? Thanks

F! Video

The link is for a video of Disneyland's version of F! They're fairly similar, although imho DL's is much better, so I thought it might help in making your decision. (Just don't play it when DS14 is in the room or then he'll really want to go!)

Seats aren't paid for or assigned (unless you book the Fantasmic Dinner package...then you get to sit in VIP seats which also are not assigned) other than park admission, it's on a first come first seat choice basis.... I say take her and DS, and if it's too much for her DS and your husband can stay....it won't cost you anything to see if she likes it (other then park admission for the day...and I'm sure you intend on seeing other things at MGM during the daytime)

Hope she likes it...because I'm sure you will!

I am going to recommend 1 hour prior to have a decent seat

and if there is a second show that night -- would consider that, will not be as crowded as first show :)

Fantasmic is one of my favorites.

My DS has seen it three times. First time was at 9 months old, second time was 21 months old, and this last time he was 31 months old.

He has loved it each time. Mickey Mouse is having a nightmare, so there are the villians & the big dragon in it. But there are also all the other characters in it to.

I dont think it is to scary. My DS can scare easily, but he loves this show. He sits there wide eyed & just loves it. When it is over, he asked to see it again.

The good part is, if your child gets scared, you can just leave the theater & your other party members can stay.

Thanks for all the info. Looks like we will go.

Jessmela: Thanks for the video. That was very helpful DD is watching it and wants to see it.

The only problem is, we have to wait until August. All your replies were very helpful. Thanks Everybody!
