Help! I'm feeling very uncreative today. What can I serve with spaghetti other than Garlic Bread? I'm going to do a salad but I need something else and I can't think of the "something."

Any side appetizer item works..

Toasted Rav's
Mozzarella sticks
Potato Skins
Breadsticks
Stuffed Mushrooms
Eggplant Parmesean

....yummy food...getting carried away..

How about some crispy/crunchy Italian bread. Unless we are having company, we only have pasta, salad and bread.

I am boring..I always have garlic toast, breadsticks or regular garlic bread. Not very creative here...lol

I am making bruschetta with my garden tomatoes for dinner tonight along with chicken penne alfredo.

Cheesy garlic bread? I don't care how boring it is, I just LOVE garlic bread!

I sometimes make garlic cheese biscuits, like the ones from Red Lobster to go with ours.

to me garlic bread is a must with spaghetti. Why not jazz up the bread by melting some cheese on top?

for something really different what avout a white bean with sage bruchetta?

Grill or broil toasts (sliced baguette with olive oil lightly brused on with salt and pepper).

Mash (or whiz in food processer/mini chopper) the following

1 can drained white kidney beans (or even chickpeas in a pinch)
1 clove minced garlic
1/4 tsp dried crumbled sage (or about three leaves fresh shredded) don't use the powerded stuff or if you do use a tiny tiny pinch.
salt and pepper to taste.
about 1 tbls olive oil
1 tbls lemon juice.

Spread on toasts, broil for a minute until warmed through and serve (also pretty but not required is a little red pepper diced on top for garnish or a tiny bit of parmesan!)

We almost always have garlic bread with spaghetti, but occasionally I also make veal parmesan. :)

oh yes.... stuffed mushrooms or red lobsters cheddar bay biscuits...here is the recipe

Red Lobster Cheese Biscuits
Dough:
11/4 lbs. Bisquik
3 Oz. freshly shredded cheddar cheese
11 Oz. cold water
Garlic Spread:
1/2 cup melted buffer
1 teas. garlic powder
1/4 teas. salt
1/8 teas. onion powder
1/8 teas. dried parsley
To cold water, add Bisquik and cheese, blending in a mixing bowl.
Mix until dough is firm.
Using a small scoop, place the dough on a baking pan lined with baking paper. Bake in 375 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. While biscuits bake, combine spread ingredients.
Brush baked biscuits with the garlic topping.

Thank you all so much for the ideas. Now I just have to decide.

Any other ideas?

Elise

We always have a veggie (broccolli or peas/carrots) with spaghetti.
Yeah. I like to make mine with a side of spnach with garlic, sun dried tomatoes and balasamic vinegar

What about some nice roasted veggies...like zucchini, peppers, green beans ect...... just drizzle with a little balsamic, oil, salt and pepper and roast.
I can't really get into another bread along with pasta, then again we are not big pasta eaters to begin with, and I live with an Italian! Go figure! :confused3

Full Italian with 4 grandparents straight from Italy here-
And I'm here to help!

Serve your salad
Serve your spagetti
then serve sliced ripe cantalope.
It is perfect after spagetti.
If you really want to put a twist on it wrap a piece of prociutto ham (from the deli counter - it is like Italian bacon) around it. YUM!

Another idea - although it is a replacement for salad - is mozzarella caprese.
A slice of fresh mozzarella (again the deli counter - it comes in a ball and is stored in water to keep it fresh) with a slice of a very ripe tomato on top and then some fresh basil leaves and drizzled with olive oil.

ohhhh! another idea!

yellow squash and or zuccinni sliced in long strips and roasted in olive oil.

Or you be like DH and have to have fried potatoes with his spaghetti
