Our flight home leaves at 5:25. I am not sure the kids will be ready to eat at 4:30 though I could be wrong. What on Earth can I bring on the plane for them to eat. Lunch seems pretty easy on the way there but dinner is just a more complicated meal! I wish they airlines would serve food for those that pay extra. It would simplify things!

Any suggestions for a 2 year old and a 6 year old would be great!

Our flight home leaves about the same time I never thought about dinner for the kids on the plane ride home. Maybe takeout from a restaurant at the airport or just sandwiches. Thanks for posting the question I'd like to hear some more ideas

Hmmm. Are we on the same plane? I will bring the main course and you bring snacks and drinks! :rotfl:

When we are in this situation I usually do a more healthy meal for lunch and do our sandwiches for dinner. I also find everyone likes to eat lighter on the plane anyway. I usualy just pack a picnic lunch in soft sided cooler to carry on and includ a few treats they don't normally get. For the kids a sandwich, goldfish crackers and maybe a granola bar, gummy fruit snacks and a juice box. I freeze a water bottle for an extra drink and ice pack. They like the ring pops, a novelty and also a help for the ears.

I do avoid milk and milk products - not because they are more likely to make someone sick but because of the yech factor if they do get sick.

Do you buy the sandwiches at the airport?

I wouldn't make it a "dinner" necessarily, just bring sandwiches and plenty of snack type items which you can purchase at the airport - how long is the flight?

sandwiches/snacks are perfect for the flight...

It is a 3 hour flight and we are taking Jetblue. It will be around 9pm by the time we get home. Too late by then!

No - you could, but I usually make them myself at the resort before we leave. I generally have sandwich fixings in the room anyway for use during the vacation so I plan for one additional "lunch".

If that's not an option I would order sandwiches from the resort and keep the condiments separate, just grab the pouches you need. I always bring zip locks for this and many other uses so I would re-package the sandwiches into zip loc for freshness and your all set.

My least favorite option is purchasing the sandwiches at the airport. You never know what will be available and to me that's leaving to much to chance - especially with kids.

Unfortunately, Jet blue dosen't sell food but they will serve a beverage and some snacks - we love the blue chips so that will help. We love JB esp the service, snacks and TV, TV, TV! If you check the website they list the all the beverages and snacks available.

FWIW - I actually like flying during a meal time as it keeps my kids busy a bit longer while they eat.

I would give them a late lunch/early dinner. Then pack pb&j uncrustables by smuckers and some snacks they like. USA3000 serves meals on most of their flights and they are adding an Orlando hub this fall.

We flew Jet Blue last Oct and it was great. I guess our flights were a little different though. We gave the kids pizza at the airport before we left.

If you're staying on property, I'd pick up some sandwiches from your resort.

If you have a rental car and can get to a supermarket before the airport, your options are endless. I'd think about opting for a lunchable as they're easy. You could also pick up fast food (McD's, BK, etc.).

If you're off property w/no cafe facility and are taking a shuttle, arrive at the airport early and grab some food there!

When we came home from WDW in May, we had a late flight (arrived home at 11pm) and ended up eating at our resort at 2:30 and brought along some extra food for later on. I'm trying to remember what we had ... maybe deli sandwiches and chips?

Good luck!

I like the idea I heard somewhere about the plane rides home:

When you are at the parks, pick up some of the novelty snacks that are Disney themed..then when you are on your way home..and eating your sandwiches..you can still have some of your fun treats that you enjoyed at the parks..or at the resorts. *after all a little of the fun of vacation is eating fun foods right?!!* (it is for me anyway.) :mickeybar

OOo! Good idea! Might take some of the sting out of leaving too!

We're planning to go to DTD for our last morning. I think our flight leaves at 3:30 so ME picks up around 1 or so for transport to the airport. We're planning to eat at Mickey D's and then use CS credits from the dining plan to pick up sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich at DTD to bring onto the plane.

If this doesn't work out, does anyone know what restaurants are located at MCO? I hate to sit around the airport for 2 1/2 hours with two kids and nothing to do so eating then might be a good idea.

Great Idea. You reminded me of something as well. My dd got a kids meal at fantasmic that I have since seen in a few other places including some of the gift shops. It was a plastic lunchbox with a sandwich, carrots, juice box and mickey cookies - that IMHO would be a great airplane lunch/dinner. It would keep them busy for a while as well.

Lunchables, drink and all. You can even pick them up at convenience stores while you refuel your rental car, if you have one. I don't normally let DS have them, so they are a high treat while travelling.

when we left last week, we ate a nice lunch before we left for the airport and then picked up sandwiches at the airport to eat on the plane. There was a stand outside the gate that had wraps and subs that were perfect in my purse. I was afraid to carry food made any earlier than that in my purse because I didn't want anything to spoil.

There are several resturants in the airport if you would like to wait until you get there to eat. THe Chili's isn't bad, and there is a Macarroi Grill. They also have lots of fast food options like Nathans Hot Dogs and subs.

We flew Northwest and they served drinks on the plane and sold trail-mix for $1.00 for a nice size bag.
