Need Ideas for Christmas Scavenger Hunt surprise !!!

Hey Everyone,
Need some ideas from all the experts in DIS land!!!
We plan on surprising our DS's (14, 11) at Christmas, telling them about our big trip in Aug 08. I want to do a scavenger hunt type of thing and I thought I'd ask if anyone out there had done something like this before... What did you do to surprise your kids?
I've ordered the "Imagnineering Guides to...", but that would give it away right off the bat.... how can I lead up to the big surprise??!!
Any ideas would be great - thanks everyone!!!

Maybe get them some Disney Dollars from the Disney Store.....I think that is something I am going to do for Christmas and my kids b-days (we are going Sept. 2008).

last year Disney offered a free enchanted phone call on Christmas day from Mickey annoucing the trip. My call came later than it was supposed to, but my DS went crazy! He was so happy Mickey Mouse called him on Christmas.
I also did this for my husband on his birthday when I surprised him with a trip were taking this Oct.
I know it is not a hunt type thing...but it was fun! Maybe the hunt could lead them to a phone where they should await a very important call from one of their favorite Pals.
Even if it is not free, you can still get the phone call for I think it was around $2.50. You can select the charater too. Have fun whatever you decide!

The Disney Dollars is a good idea too. My kids get them and Disney gift cards in their stockings about each year! Just keep in mind Disney dollars are like cash, if lost or stolen...while gift cards can be replaced as long as you hang onto your reciept of purchase.

It is not free right now, but if they offer it for free on Christmas again I am sure it will be all the buzz on the DIS.

I surprised my Dsis w/ a trip to DW and gave it to her during the holidays... I wrapped 12 gifts... along the line of the 12 days of christmas... believe me the gifts werent expensive at all- I wanted to do a scavenger hunt but we live in different states... anywho some of the gift ideas were ornaments, picture frame, disney money, post cards, stamps, pens, a travel candle and a bunch of other stuff and on the last gift that she opened it was a shirt that said "My sister gave me the world"- she really didnt have a clue when she was opening the gifts until she got closer to the final box... they all think I give Disney gifts just cause I love it so much....

Just another idea for the kids.... You can start thier hunt in school... leaving a note in thier lunch/ book/ book bag or by getting thier friends involved... maybe giving them a riddle....

Actually the call last christmas was free and not the enchanted call. Can;t remember but it was something new for people that booked before xmas (hopefully it will do it again) Basically you set your phone # where you will be on xmas day. Then a call came from a general voice saying there is a magical message waiting and to gather your family then press 2 and mickey would come on the phone saying something to the effect " wow i just heard the great news, etc.... and i can't wait to see you in DISNEY WORLD" my DD7 at the time had not put 2 and 2 together, but we called the display # back and was able to listen again. very cool.

Well, I know a friend who did this at Christmas and went in January and she put a plane as they were traveling by plane... or if you are driving a toy car...
or a piece of luggage and some luggage tags....

I will ask her again and find out what else she did...
