The first night of our trip is not part of our DVC ressie. We have a one night reservation at the Doubletree Guest Suites and will have to move to BWV the next day. Several people have said that they prefer to stay on-site as opposed to off-site due to convenience which makes sense to me. We originally chose the Doubletree since it was so close to Downtown Disney. So here are a few questions for all of you DVC veterans that may have been through this before.
We fly in late afternoon, so by the time we check-in it will be pretty late (5:30 PM or so). Is it even worth getting a park pass for that day? If so, can we get our park hopper dvc discount when we check in at the first hotel or do we have to wait until we check in at BWV?

Which on-site Moderate hotel would you recommend?

Should I assume that if we change to on-site that there shouldn't be a problem moving our luggage.

Thanks for any info and advice

I like Port Orleans (that maybe being refurb. though). Otherwise thay are all good.

Should not be a problem. We took a van from PO to OKW(the driver even refused a modest tip, he said have a drink on him..we did)

Joe in CT

PO is closed for refurb, and I haven't stayed at the Carribean.

So between the Dixie Landings and the Coronado Springs I would say the Coronado is nicer.

Also you may be able to rent points from an owner (usually $10 a point I have read here) for that night and stay at the BWV or nearby BCV.

I would also recommend PO. The last I knew they had a special of $119 per night, ask for building 4 which is right next to the food court and near the pool. I don't know when they are beginning their refurbishing, though, it may be closed. When we checked out to go over to BWV, they handled the luggage, and we went over to the parks for the morning. If I were you I would wait to get my tickets until I checked in to my DVC unit. Spend your evening at PO relaxing, and touring the entire resort. There is a lot to see, it's a large place and takes a while to explore.;)

My opinion, I wouldn't suggest going to the park if you won't check into 5:30, probably spend it either relaxing by the pool and or going to Downtown Disney and do a little shopping/exploring. I think it's great to just relax the first day you get in, esp if it's late, allows you to gear up properly for the parks.

POFQ if it's open. I'm not to wild about CS, but only cuz there are to many ppl running around in suits, also not to wild about the surcharge they add to food in the food court, it's a gorgeous hotel though. That's just me though!

If you stay on site they will take care of moving your luggage for you and ensuring it gets to your new hotel, all you have to do it make it over to the new hotel sometime during the day to check in.

Good luck and enjoy your trip!!

Caribbean Beach is nice. We stayed there last year and our room was freshy rehabbed.

On a trip in February we stayed one night at the Wilderness Lodge main resort before we moved over to Boardwalk DVC and Disney transferred our luggage without any problems. We didn't have a car on the February trip. The day we checked out of Wilderness Lodge and were moving to Boardwalk we just took a Disney bus to MGM studios and walked the path over to Boardwalk from MGM Studios.

Our luggage made it to Boardwalk by about 4:00 p.m. from the Wilderness Lodge.

I would definitely wait until the next day to head to the parks - 5:30 is pretty late (and you could have delays). I'd spend the first night at the one-night resort. The moderates have nice grounds to explore.

The DVC discount is only for the UPH (Length of Stay) pass and you can't get it until you check in to the BWV.

My advice is to just keep the Doubletree ressie and enjoy DD/PI that first evening. It's convenient and there are lots of interesting sights and entertainment options there to explore. Get a good night's rest and then checkin to the BWV early the next morning. You can leave your luggage with Bell Services, get your park tickets and enjoy the day!

With the Swan and Dolphin at $139 a night, why not stay there and just walk over to BWV the next day. Being in the Boardwalk area would also provide plenty of entertainment options if you don't want to go into any parks that first night.

I never heard of a park hopper DVC discount!! I usually stay at the Hilton which is really close to DD, right across the street. We eat, swim and go shopping at DD, which really makes for a nice night. I would stick to your plans the Double Tree suites a nice also and make for a nice walk to DD.
