We have a short break from school during January and are considering a weekend at HHI. We have never been there so I don''t know what to expect especially in the winter. Anybody traveled there in the winter? Are there still daily activities for the kids? How about other activities in the area? Any info would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Yes, the resort will have a compliment of guest activities and most of the other recreational opportunities will still be available (bike riding, nature tours, Dolphin watch, kayaking, canoeing, etc.) dependent on the weather. January could be in the 70's or in the 40's depending on when you are here.

There will still be theater productions, golfing, tennis, shopping and a wide variety of dining opportunities available at that time.

Enjoy! :)

That sounds great! We usually go to the outer banks and so many things are closed during the winter that the kids tend to get bored and it is usually very cold up until Memorial Day. Here's hoping that since we will be farther south it will be a bit warmer... 70's would be great;)

W-e-l-l, 70s sounds pretty wishful thinking to me. The latest we've been is Thanksgiving and the earliest has been mid-February. Only rarely have we ever seen the thermometer break 70 in those months. In February, it never got above the 50s. However, everyone said "You should have been here last week-it was in the 80s". The first Thanksgiving we went it was literally freezing on Thanksgiving Day. I went out and about to take pictures, but after a few photos, the camera batteries FROZE and wouldn't work til I was back inside and the batteries warmed up. That year, and most of the subsequent years, DH has encountered at least one frost delay when he golfs. Of course, we've heard lots of wonderful stories about hot Thanksgiving, sunshine, swimming, etc. Come to think of it, it seems we bring the cold weather to HHI, so maybe you'll be OK, since we don't have a January trip planned!

Hummm, Simba's Mom sounds like you guys have about the same luck as we do:lmao: I am not sure where Harlingen, TX is but I remember in the mid 90's living in Texas and it was 86 degrees on Christmas Day (Now that was just WRONG!) I really want to go to HHI, but a little warmth in the middle of January would be wonderful, we are torn between WDW and HHI. Right now we may be leaning toward WDW since our annual passes will still be good and the prices are going up again... Any other good reasons to pick HHI over WDW (other than the five hour driving difference:eek:)

Can't miss the opportunity for a geography lesson. Harlingen is way down by the border, a suburb of Brownsville, in the "toe" of Texas. It's always much colder is HHI than here-heck, it's always cooler in WDW than here (so says a CM I met there who'd retired from Harlingen). 86 degrees at Christmas is normal. Geography and Weather lesson over.
