Trying to decide if its better to book my vacation with or without the dining plan. Any advice?

Thanks

Hi WishingMom!

I think first you'll have to sit down and do some planning. How do you normally eat on vacation? Lots of fast food and a few nice dinners, or do you do a nice sit down place everyday?

Check these 2 places for menus and prices -

The dining plan costs $37.99 for adults, and $9.99 per day for kids 3-9.

For our family, the DDP would cost $96 per day. I figured that eating 2 CS meals and one snack per person, per day would cost us about $80 per day. It's worth it to me to pay the extra $16 per day and be guaranteed a nice, cool, sit down meal.

It may be a different story if you have kids 10 and over that don't eat $38 per day. Then you may want to just pay out of pocket instead.

Have fun! :)

Welcome to the DIS!!!
How many are in your party and what are there ages? As the PP asked, how do you like to eat each day? Have you been to Disney before - a TS meal can take 90 minutes or more out of your tourning day/evening.
There is a "Sticky" at the top of this forum that can answer almost any question you have about the Dining Plan.
Only you can decide what is right for your family, given the ages in the group, your preferred dining style and your budget.
For us - a party of 3 adults who like to have a formal dinner each evening in a nice restaurant - it was perfect. If I was new to Disney and trying to see the most I possibly could, it would have been too much time in restaurants and away from the parks. So it truly does depend. Not one answer is correct for everyone.
Have a Great Trip.

We just got back from a week at WDW and had an incredible trip! After going back and forth trying to decide about the DP we decided to do it--what a joy that was:goodvibes !! We had me, dh, ds 5, and ds2 and for me it was a decision that had a huge and happy impact on our trip.

It was easy enough getting some adr's fairly last minute and we even changed a couple while at the world (I had disney dining on my cell:laughing: ). The best part for me was that it was stress free--any of us could order whatever we wanted and I was not concerned about the money (didn't feel like I needed to get the chicken if I really wanted the steak kind of thing). It was all already paid for and so much less for me to be concerned about. I know that this made my trip so much more enjoyable but did not realize on the front end how great this would be.

As the pp's have mentioned you really have to look at it with the makeup of your group but if you price out even a couple of sit down meals it pays for itself very quickly. I am happy to answer any questions if you have any!

It really depends on your style--dining & touring!

Basically, the DDP provides 1 TS credit, 1 CS credit and one snack credit for each night of your package reservation.

We found that we felt tied to our ADRs after about three days. And, more often than not, we really weren't ready to eat again when they rolled around! *LOL*

Not a good choice for us, I'm afraid. But I graze rather than eating "meals." By the end of the day I've eaten recommended everything--most days--in smaller batches! :)
